Naples - best place in Italy so far...

... 6 or 7 music stores in 1 block- one of which had guitars, lutes and other stringed instruments dating back to the late 1800's.

Also discovered that the food options in Naples are a lot better than northern Italy with a lot more meat based snacks and fried snacks available to eat whilst wandering the streets.
No wonder northern Italians are so skinny and short - their food options for decent snacks are so limited compared to the south ...

Gorgeous views from the Gargano

... to be going. At first I thought it was a family party. On closer inspection, I realised that they had the Coppa del Monde on display - the soccer World Cup! I rushed out to get Jonathan, knowing how excited he would be. It was a great atmosphere - although an Australian win would have been better! From there we headed further up the coast to see the salt pans of Margherita di Savoia. As it had been raining (we're getting ...

(Holiday Hotel, Foggia, November 20, 2006)-Mark, Vito and I flew back from Milano to Bari on the 18th and Vito's dad Gianni Laterza and Vito's mom picked us up at the airport in Bari and drove us back to Foggia, where we went directly to the town square to meet my publisher, Marcello Baraghini, and our friend Monica from Stampa Alternativa for the presentation of my book Va Tutto Bene / It's All Good to the people of Foggia. It was a beautiful ...

Promontorio del Gargarno, the spur of the boot

... And it had a puppy!! Just one to start with then another 2 tiny ones turned up out of the blue 2 days later. We spent most of the 4 days we were there lounging on the beach in our free sun lounges (all included in the price), swimming, lunching, playing with puppies...and working on our badminton. The water was crystal clear and the sand was lovely. We are trying to stay in shape a little to ...

Hurry to Bari

... there and the Ferry left at 8pm. We were slowed down a bit by the hail storm with stones as big as marbles hitting the car. Many cars pulled off the motorway and parked under bridges and near brush and trees during the peak of the storm, all other vehicles slowed to snail's pace. It was noisy, bright with lightening and very pretty to see the huge hail stones banking up on the side of the road. Before the storm our outside temperature gauge on the car read 33°C and during ...

Goodbye Greece, Hello Italy

... a piece of world famous Napoli pizza (they claim they invented it), and hit the sack. I plan to see Pompeii tomorow on the way to the Amalfi Coast. In the absence of other things to report, here are a few shoutouts: *What Ill miss about Greece: the lovely ferry rides with the wind blowing through my hair and the sun beating down my face (Ive never had so much fun doing nothing for 10 hours), the deep blue of the Aegean, the food (new favorite - tex mex doritos), the ...

On the pilgrim's trail (and tales of a bungee)

... for the Renaissance. History is a little sketchy but it seems that the Pringles of old were good God-fearing Christians that probably participated in a Crusade or two and definitely embarked on regular pilgrimages to shrines dedicated to their patron saint, St Michael, located in Italy, France and southern England. So to share the old-worlde spirit of the 14th ...

Back in Italy...

Well I am back in Italy. I just arrived in Bari, Italy yesterday and we are now waiting to board our cruise ship for a 7 day trip around the Greek Islands and Croatia. It is going to be absolutely amazing. I just hope the weather is nice. We left Paris saturday afternoon and had pretty much a 20 hour train ride here. It was the most uncomfortable experience of my life. The day before we left Paris we took ...
