Just the flight to New York
After brekky this morning we caught our shuttle to SF airport. There was a lot of security - we had to take off jewellery, bags, jackets and shoes. There was no lounge for first class, but we did come across an internet lounge, just set up the day before. We read our emails and sent the girls an email, at last. We boarded the plane, had some lovely …
Walking exploration of New York City
What a lovely day!! First we had to walk a couple of blocks to a grocery store and buy some milk for our brekky - returned, had brekky and then set out at around 11am - walking all the way across to the Intrepid Museum - interesting walk.
We finally went on the Concorde - narrow seats - all sealed but you could still smell the leather. We …
Continued Exploration of New York
Goodness, what a day!! What didn't we see?? I can only remember the highlights.
After an early brekky we walked over to the Greyline Depot by 8.40am to get our tour. The tour started at 9am and we weren't back to our room till 7.30pm!!!
We drove down to Battery Park via Everywhere (Time's Square, Macy's, Soho, Little Italy, …
Taking it easy in New York
Today we took it easy. After brekky we walked down to the subway and worked out how to obtain tickets using our credit card and a touch screen. We caught the subway down to City Hall and walked over to Ground Zero where we took photos and read all all the information boards. They have a list of all the heroes, including those on the plane that …

Perfect for families
We spent 3 nights at Plaza 50 with two teenage sons - space is important to us. It was a very spacious suite with a small kitchen and ample dining area. It was attractive and clean. The staff was very helpful and pleasant. If you love a beautiful lobby, you won't find it here, but you can mosey up the block to the Waldorf and get your lobby fix there! The New York Luncheonette is steps away and is a clean and fast place to grab a meal - they serve all 3. Walking distance to Grand Central, Rockefeller Center, St Patrick's Cathedral is very close by.
This hotel is in a great neighborhood and is a very good value. We would stay again.
OK hotel for a weekend stay
We spent here 3 nights in September 2003.OK hotel if you plan to stay
with your family over the weekend, but don't expect anything special
Pros:
* very good location (walking distance to central park, 5th Ave, Waldorf Astoria where the double decker bus stops is just 5 min walking distance from here, great deli around the corner)
* friendly, helpful staff
* suites with kitchen and spacious living room, for those planning to stay with kids
Cons:
* rooms require renovation and a new furniture
* charges for local calls (min $1 per call...)
Great Value for Money
We found the staff very helpful and the room was clean and very pleasant. The bed made a big impression. It was centrally located for all sightseeing especially the shopping experience. We would heartly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting New York. Great Value for Money
Hated it
This was the most horrible experience I have ever had at a hotel! The walls had holes in them, the light in the bathroom flickered- we had a pleasant view of a brick wall, the staff was rude, basically anything that could've been unpleasant was. The concierge was at best ok and the rest of the staff looked at you with blank stares. Dont stay here! Stay at a reputable hotel with a name- this place just sucked. They had apparently been remodeling, which is another excuse for "we will have planks on the floors, and tape covering wires in your room". Bottom line - dont go there. The truth is in the information you can find out about this hotel, which is very little to none. You wont see any pics of the rooms other than the purplish "suite". Also the picture of the front desk is taken from a vantage point that makes it look large and nice, it is small and dingy in reality. Sorry, if I ruined the excited feeling you may have had but, you will thank me later!
Great Staff and Hotel
We arrived at the Plaza Fifty in the middle of the Great Blackout. Even without power the hotel had a reservation list and still knew we were to arrive. The staff was excellent and even in the face of adversity, they were professional and always had a smile on their face. I will definately stay there again.
Great place to stay
The Plaza Fifty was an excellent place to stay, the rooms are extremely spacious, with their own kitchen facilities which was extremely handy since there was a deli just around the corner. The rooms are kept very clean and I have no hesitaion on returning there to stay. All the sights are within walking distance maybe a lttle further out than some more expensive hotels but you come across your first sight within a ten minute walk. All in all an excellent place to stay.
Wonderful place to stay
We stayed 3 nights at the Plaza Fifty and couldn't have been happier with our choice of hotels. The staff was so friendly and helpful and upgraded us to a superior suite at no additional charge. We couldn't have asked for a nicer staff. The room was huge with a dining room, kitchen, large bedroom and a private balcony. Close walking distance to many popular city destinations and excellent restaurants. Staying at the Plaza Fifty really topped off a truly excellent vacation.
Great Value, Pleasantly Surprised
I was really impressed! I stayed for six nights in June and can't say enough good things about Plaza Fifty. Four women need their space and we had it. The room was a good size, always clean and quiet. The small kitchen was perfect for toasting a bagel or heating some leftovers. The location was great for bus or subway and walking distance to Rockefeller Center. The value was great for 2 queen beds and the space we needed. I will stay again.
Plaza Fifty was nice and clean
We stayed at the Plaza Fifty in July 2003. The hotel staff was very nice and let us check in 3 hours early. The room was very clean and a nice size. There was a microwave, coffee pot, and fridge in the room. I would definitely stay here again!
Superb
Have just returned from a long weekend in New York, staying at the Plaza Fifty. It is a fantastic* hotel. Rooms are large and absolutely spotless and most have full kitchens which is amazingly useful (there is a wonderful deli, Azure, just around the corner open 24 hours - watch yourself or you'll spend a fortune). All staff were very friendly and helpful without being false, and check in/out was handled quickly and painlessly. I have always stayed a little further uptown on previous trips, so I was somewhat dubious of the location of the Plaza Fifty (I thought it may be a little too far down and a little too far over), but I was pleasantly surprised. The Waldorf is two blocks away, if thats any indication. Anyway, I could go on for pages about this place but I'll hold back and just say that the Plaza Fifty is very spacious, very clean, very friendly and very very good value.
