As Cian put it, telling him that he's darker than I am is a milestone for Irish people everywhere.
In any case, it was awesome to be escaping to an island.

We went out a few times, in the town which I found to be a very nice place, probably one of the better towns I had seen in quite some time.
Vólos, Thessaly, Greece b.a.manzella... week's stormy weather and the heavy rains we had on the first night showed the inadequacies of the drainage and the awning was well and truly flooded. Fortunately no damage was done and the remainder of our stay there, being hot and sunny, more than made up for it. Our first night there produced another incredible thunderstorm. During our travels we have been very lucky with the weather, particularly when we hear of ...
Vólos, Thessaly, Greece oldagetraveller... children below the age of 10, was no easy fun.
Instead of taking us straight to the waterfall for a dip in the hot afternoon, he made all of us climbed up the waterfall from ground level through the side. It was a very steep climb and the ground was very slippery and muddy, making it more difficult for all of us! ... on Mount Pelion itself, in a village called Agios Georgios. Mount Pelion is scattered with villages, most of which still retain their characteristic traditional charm. Monday and Tuesday pass quite like Sunday. Waking to the sounds of birds, barking dogs and roosters crowing. After a breakfast of thick yogurt and fruit, eggs coffee and bread with homemade preserves, we wind our way down through Milies and the through olive groves along road to Afiosos and spend the afternoon at the shore. In Milies there is one particularly spectacular curve in the middle of the village -- almost 90 degrees and completely blind. You just have to nudge ...
