... we would go to the same restaurant where they had a great American style breakfast with toast and a big, three-egg omelet with bacon. It was a wonderful way to start the day, looking out into the harbor, we would discuss the day's plans.

The only thing we dreaded was encountering an older gentleman who also frequented this restaurant. Every time he saw us, he would loudly come over to us and exclaim "Americans! You have great country! Great ...

We chatted to some young women there including a kiwi girl who said the place gets wild in the late afternoon when the DJ fires up and there is table top dancing. My third Greek island was Syros. We sailed from Mykonos and reached the Eastern side of the island in the evening. Most of us chose to go for a walk through the town centre which was a twenty minute walk from the port. We stopped at a gelato shop because many were craving it and some needed Internet and a power plug. After this visit we caught taxis to the port to prepare for dinner and then headed back into ...

... the gas stations only take cash. Needless to say, it took us a while (and a lunch under a glorious plane tree in Filoti, where we also witnessed the emotional start of a Greek funeral) to get the cash and gas in the car to be free to go anywhere (Naxos is a big island, and going somewhere on a quarter tank is not a good idea: gas stations do not abound). When we finally DID, we headed to the south end of the island, to a remote beach called Kalados.
