... it's more interesting than the motorway. Our first port of call, excuse the pun! Was palm fronted Kavala, it has a hill top castle, an aqueduct dated 1530 and a colourful Panagia old quarter.
The aqueduct is very impressive built in a curve with large arches supporting smaller arches which in turn supports the water channel. The water comes from springs 6.5 kilometres away and was stored in the cistern in the ...

... inland to Maires a small village from where you can walk to a forest lake and waterfalls. The drive up was very picturesque, the road surrounded with ancient olive groves, the trunks of the trees are twisted and knarled, there are also rows of bee hives painted in bright colours. We stopped to look at some Ancient Greek ruins and also an old fishing village which ...

... a few kilometres town a track that at times was very wet and muddy. The centre was all closed up and the gates locked. We parked a bit further along the track and walked for an hour or so until we got to a very muddy bit and then returned. We settled in for the evening. After we had eaten we heard very close to us a pack of jackals howling, it was very loud, surprisingly Logan didn't flinch or seem to notice, we heard them several times in the distance during the ...

Caught a bus for the two hour trip up the coast to Kavala in the Macedonia region of Greece.

Very pretty wooded hillsides with houses and olive groves and a lot of grape vines that were covered to protect them.

Sitting opposite us on the bus were two very elderly Greek ladies dressed in black. They were chatting away in Greek for the whole trip and each one had on her lap a cake box from ...
