... anchor for a swim, which is where the attached photo was taken. This process of waking up sailing down the coast, followed by a swim, sun baking, lunch, drinking, swim, drinking games, dinner in the local port and clubbing became to routine for the week. A great way to spend a week. By the end of the trip all 30 people on the boat were good mates, (with dark tans and wild stories). Definitely a must do trip, would definitely do it again.
So while in Prague we booked our seaside trip. We chose Croatia because of its extensive coastal areas and the prices were supposed to be cheap. We chose a last minute all inclusive package to the town of Orebic, which is about 3 hours north of Dubrovnik. After comparing prices it was just as economical to book a package with a flight compared to traveling by bus. We arrived at our hotel at night so the next morning was our first opportunity ...
Orebic, Croatia polloslibre... seen. A few hours later we were knocking back the local vino and then somehow found ourselves partying in an elderly german couples boat, singing Irish songs. This was until girl with lovely eyes (name withheld for reputational reasons) announced she urgently needed to go and throw up, so we decided to call it a night. The germans thanked the good Lord that they had got us off their boat. My liver thanked me for its unexpected deliverance... Spending the ...
Mljet National Park, Croatia springy100... of this tourist mecca. From the walls eyes and lenses peered intrusively through green-shuttered windows, into the least stylised, most scrutinised part of the town. I had heard of Dubrov's awful war legacy, shelled spitefully and pointlessly, but found not the slightest sign of it, apart from those two-tone roofs. Anything likely to draw a tourist had been painstakingly cleaned up. But us tourists don't generally like to venture far from the hotels and ...
Dubrovnik, Croatia philiad... to see how their lives were effected and how they saw the difference between communism and democracy. The girl from Macedonia was there for a womans issues conference, they were focusing on woman empowerment. It was a great experience to hear about their lives. The next day it was raining a bit, but I walked around old town, there were so many tourist and cruise ships it took the romance out of the town. Its not very big ...
Dubrovnik, Croatia sasull... and went home to bed. Pizza and pasta are quite common here, and damn good. The normal staples are centered around meat. Lots of it. That night out with Mladen (the hertz rental friend) he wrote down 3 things we needed to get at the restuarant we were going to. They were all 100% meat dishes, one being "bacon coated chicken livers". You get the idea. The food is quite ...
Dubroknik, Croatia gep**Saying no to a toddler has the same effect as a yellow light to drivers. Both groups try to complete their task more quickly before getting in trouble. ** Paying the bus driver 20 Kunas for storing our luggage we boarded the bus with a young German couple and left for the coastal town of Orebic. This is Croatian wine country and the dry rocky landscape was dotted with small grape vineyards and pine trees. As we threaded through a ...
Orebic, Croatia fezmonkeyThe ferry trip from Hvar to Dubrovnik was longer, four to five hours, but interjected with spectacular scenery of the uninhabited croatian islands the whole way. Suzy and I came to a head over the best method to be full of food on the cheap, me with the old buying cheap snacky things versus her splurging out on the all you can eat buffet and manipulating the system technique. We tested it out, and I was reduced to falling ravenously on a loaf of ...
Dubrovnik, Croatia alicecrabtree... the Dubrovnik direct bus was sold out we hadn't quite bargained on the 10 hour trip toward the wrong end of the country. Then again, on a trip like ours there are no wrong ends and every destination is worthy of at least some attention. So there we were in Pula standing at a small bus depot at the extreme northern reaches of Croatia wondering what we would find there, where we would sleep for the night, and more importantly, how we would eventually find our way to ...
Dobrovnik, Croatia stevecori... old fashion kitchen sink washing, I start to lean out the bedroom window and hang my clothes to dry. I have all hung, except my panties which I am trying to hang 4 at a time, so they aren't so obvious, blowing in the wind. That's when it all starts to happen. My bedroom window, top floor, at the top of the hill, is eye to eye level with the western wall, about 40ft away. When one of my beloved guide comes around the corner, with a #32 sign and a heavy German accent, gets all chipper ...
