Chambery has an amazing history, having been the capital of the Savoie region, and it has been part of Italy, Austria and France at one time or another. ... many wineries in the region. We also chose to visit the UNESCO site winery in Canelli named CONTRATTO, and toured their amazing huge underground complex and tasted their wines. This winery is famous for what we call in the US asti spumonte, however I had never tasted asti such as this - just delicious and very dry, like a lovely dry champagne.

Started another blog. Thought 13 deserved one all to itself. On the train. Bugger. Forgot to buy lunch. It's only 11.05am. ( But I did miss 2nd Breakfast.) The train does arrive in the Cinque Terre at 2.20pm. There is an 11 minute stop for train changing at Sestri Levante at 1.35pm. But doubt I can fit a food stop in there. ...
