          Departing Greece - Patra

A travel blog entry by plimmerton on Oct 16, 2015

We arrived at the Patras Port expecting to buy a ferry ticket for a crossing in the next day or so. However we found out that if we went straightaway there would have a number of benefits. So while it was a bit of a rush and that we would miss out on our last planned Greek experience - train ride on the northern coast of the Peloponnese - a hill climb railway, we decided to move ...

Finally the trucks are off and its time to get going again. Most of the trucks that get off here head straight for the motorway and head for Turkey.

Ashleigh and I are sharing a cabin and the stars at 3am this morning were spectacular. It is very smooth sailing and there are other ferries, ships and boats around. Again the lights from these ships last night was beautiful. This afternoon we visit Olympia which we are looking forward too.

... the path. There were bats flying around and some really cool formations but the most spectacular part to me were the water filled parts filled with crystal clear, very cold looking water. Some parts looked so deep but so clear you could see all the way down. Unfortunately we couldn't take pictures in the cave but it's worth it to protect these treasures. It was beautiful. One of the other couples on the tour turned out to be from California so we had ...

... made it pass quickly. It was also entertaining to be able to go out on the deck and watch the crazy blue water and nearby islands when the air was a pleasant 80 degrees. I have never seen water this blue before and something about it doesn’t seem natural.

Patras doesn’t seem like the kind of place I would choose to stay for long, but luckily, it does have what I need. Right after checking into a hostel, I was able to get ...
