... with this generous family. It turns out that they have recently (ie: three days previously) purchased the house next door and their oldest son will be renovating it and living there. Their old neighbour had recently passed away and his children wanted the property sold. Its an older house, with a cellar underneath (huge man-cave potential here), living space on the ground floor, two bedrooms on the 2nd floor and another huge attic space on the 3rd floor ...
At last we got the chance to spend more than a couple of days in Maastricht! My cousin Annelies and her husband Jules live there and it's a wonderful city full of history and culture. We really enjoyed the hospitality of our hosts and Jen and Matt were able to visit for my birthday. Sharan and Peter Burrow were only an hour away in Brussels so we got to spend a weekend with them as well as cousins Kees and Ans who live in the rural town of Berlicum and Sanne and Dan in Zierikzee ...

Saying goodbye was hard, but we consoled ourselves with the prospect of the exciting adventure that lay before us: crossing the Channel to England!

We left Bergues around 10am on a beautiful morning heading towards Brussels. As it was the May Day BH the roads were very quiet and all the shops shut.
