    Great Hotel

The hotel was in a great location really close to the underground and right down the street from Checkpoint Charlie. The staff was really helpful answering all my questions and offering advice. The internet is only free in the lobby area, which was a bit of a pain - but not a deal breaker. There is a supermarket directly across the street which is very convenient. The room itself had a very comfy bed and a small kitchenette. The TV and air conditioning worked very well. Would definitely stay here again!

30 years ago, being Jewish in Germany would have been extremely uncomfortable, but after staying in this hotel, my worries about gastapo bursting through the door were put to rest and I was able to get more than a decent night's sleep. The customer service was superb and I thoroughly enjoyed the lack of anti-Semitism. It's definitely on the top of my list to revisit.

We have finally secured Paris accommodation, with a little anxiety and compromise on our wish list. We wanted an apartment but about 5 good ones we tried were booked out and the next criteria we dropped was tea and coffee in the room, as this would have cost an extra $700 NZ for the 7 nights. Yes really. Enough said on Paris hotels for now, and I …

Not a lot to write about today as it centered around our transfer to Berlin. I had a prebooked our flights with Air Berlin some months ago as it was a lot cheaper and quicker than a fast train - 1 hr verses about 8 on the ground.

We gave ourselves a slow start and I tried to load up a few photos onto travelpod but the internet has been …

I dropped off my luggage and hit the ground running. It was a beautiful sunny day (about 18 degrees) so you must take advantage of those when they are there. I grabbed my map and headed out toward Brandenburg Gate - iconic landmark of Berlin. To my delight there was some sort of festival going on. The streets were closed and turned into a …

... my German teacher refuses to do. I understand where he is coming from, German is not English and we should be careful about translating word for word German into English as much meaning will be lost. Especially when it comes to verbs. But in saying that, I am just struggling so much with sentence construction and grammar in general that a book like this might help me out a little. I am not planning to become a master in German, just attempt ...

Hopped on the train out to max & moritz - a traditional German restaurant where we had a few local dishes and beers in the heart of the not-as-safe Turkish district.
