      Great Hotel

The hotel was in a great location really close to the underground and right down the street from Checkpoint Charlie. The staff was really helpful answering all my questions and offering advice. The internet is only free in the lobby area, which was a bit of a pain - but not a deal breaker. There is a supermarket directly across the street which is very convenient. The room itself had a very comfy bed and a small kitchenette. The TV and air conditioning worked very well. Would definitely stay here again!

30 years ago, being Jewish in Germany would have been extremely uncomfortable, but after staying in this hotel, my worries about gastapo bursting through the door were put to rest and I was able to get more than a decent night's sleep. The customer service was superb and I thoroughly enjoyed the lack of anti-Semitism. It's definitely on the top of my list to revisit.

I dropped off my luggage and hit the ground running. It was a beautiful sunny day (about 18 degrees) so you must take advantage of those when they are there. I grabbed my map and headed out toward Brandenburg Gate - iconic landmark of Berlin. To my delight there was some sort of festival going on. The streets were closed and turned into a …

We returned to Milan, eased through immigration, picked up our car and headed north toward Germany. In Split in Croatia there had been an unfortunate and sad incident. Cath had bought me a nice little Liechtenstein pin. I had worn on my grey Kathmandu polar fleece, but somewhere in Split it came off and was lost. Boo hoo! However, as I realised …

... and started willy nilly. Regardless of the interesting sights to be seen, it wasn't long before I felt that it was the wrong day for me to be doing this long run, my Nathan's hydration backpack appeared to have sprung a leak and my back was getting very wet and with the occasional rain during the run I was basically cold and wet. I managed to plod along for 28km and although the photos that I took from this run look very nice, it didn't feel ...

... not sure, but I was feeling both relieved and sad (let's call it 'rel-ad') for the trip to be coming to an end. My 'rel-ad' self got out of the shower and already sweating AGAIN, I put on my cute white dress, wore my hair as high up from my neck as i could and I was ready for my last night on tour. We were celebrating in style at the hofbrauhaus in Berlin - it is a Munich style beer hall with a great German atmosphere. Stuart and I chowed down on a pork knuckle ...

... about home. Just got on the last train of the day, looking forward to my bed and some good times in the next 2 weeks. This is the most expensive part of my trip to be in, I'm thinking some couch surfing could be in order as its about £30 a night here, maybe that's just Stockholm. I really haven't planned Sweden and Norway as much as the other places, so I think I'm going to just travel as much/little as I want. Too tired to read, too restless to sleep. 19:28 ...
