The capital Manama is simple and smart and despite recent mega projects like Bahrain World Trade Centre (with twin 50-storey towers and partially sustained by three wind turbines) still easy to explore on foot. However, driving five minutes out of town and there is just nothing except oil and gas wells and many pipelines.

I missed the exit I wanted on the freeway coming in from Saudi Arabia and then had a terrible time finding my bearings and working my way back to the north. Weekends in Bahrain
... a healthier option. I visited Geant instead where I was able to pick up some fresh fruit. I was told it is a French retail chain but it seems very similar to Wal-Mart. While I was there I picked up an iron. I had a whole choice of one. There is something to be said for having too many choices I guess.
Tomorrow, it's off to see more places in hopes of finding a permanent home for the family.
