... a good first day, he knows several of the workmen there, they live in Kartena where he is restoring the house. Tomas rang his father Antanas who lives on a farm at Plauskiniai and we will visit either on Friday or Saturday. ... the car, what a ripoff! So we drove to the White House, once the summer residence of the President of Lithuania. Laimonas & I had a quick dip in the lake, very clean water & about 20C. Then it was time to head back & catch our train to Klaipeda, I wasn't sure we would make it in time but Laimonas is a good driver and knows the roads well. Kaliningrad used to be Königsberg and was the capital of Prussia (before German Unification in 1871). Post-WW2, the name was changed by the Soviets after it was annexed. Because of its location, bounded by Lithuania, Poland & the Baltic Sea, it was a closed state and was only
