... out of the maze of underground corridors it was around a fifteen minute walk to the centre of the 'old town' area. The walk itself has you passing stunning buildings and plenty of shopping so is a pleasant stroll (maybe unless you are pulling a wheelie case on the cobble stones!). Kaliningrad used to be Königsberg and was the capital of Prussia (before German Unification in 1871). Post-WW2, the name was changed by the Soviets after it was annexed. Because of its location, bounded by Lithuania, Poland & the Baltic Sea, it was a closed state and was only
opened up to visitors about 20 years ago. Not surprisingly, there is still a very strong German influence here. ...

... what can only be described as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. It was so sandy and from where we were, we could just see the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad.

And on our way back to the apartment, we went looking for Klaipėd'a "top sight" - the tiny mouse that was about 10cm tall. Hunting around the streets trying to find it, we eventually found it right in front of our faces!
