The sun peaks over the rim of the caldera as Connie sails into Santorini's crescent shaped bay. The whitewashed buildings of Fira the capital sparkle in the early sunshine. Apart from a smaller Seadream Yacht we are the only ship docked in Santorini. We have no real plans in Santorini today other than to get the tender boat ashore and visit Fira itself. We have been to Santorini many times before. We eat breakfast in Oceanview Cafe. There is fried bread which ...

The volcanic island had very few trees and we could see sulphur smoke from steam holes and if you scraped the dirt a little the soil was moist and very hot. Of course the walk was up hills and lava gravelly and Sues newly washed shoes were soon all dusty again. The volcanoes was no where near the scale of Vesuvius - at least what we ...

We arrive in Santorini about 8am, the weather forecast is for cloudy skies and light showers, not the weather we were expecting but we are sure to enjoy this beautiful island whatever the weather. One good thing, it isn't cold and after breakfast we head to the cable car for the short journey from the old port to the town of Fira. We have visited Santorini before but haven't been outside of Fira so it will nice to discover more of ...
