In a Nutshell...

I have watched in growing horror as the months have passed and I have still written no new blog entry. As the weeks continue, the task has seemed more and more insurmountable. Since my last entry I have traveled to Hamburg, the USA, Poland, and Amsterdam. How am I supposed to cram all that into something remotely readable?? And with Karneval fa...

Trip To Germany-February 2010

Feb.7th, 2010 Getting pretty excited to go in a few days. Trying to update my packing and plan on going very basic and high-tech. Rick Steves site is a great reference. I modified some of the pack essentials. I'll see how well everything fits and update my list. I think traveling light makes all traveling easier.

Koblenz

Well, I have officially been here in Deutschland for over a month now, and I still love it. Between the mountains, the vineyards and the Rhein there's so much to explore.

On 30 January, I went back to Frankfurt for the day to visit a friend whom I had met on the airplane. Once again, Frankfurt is cool but nowhere near my favorite place....

Early Carnival in Cologne

Cologne (or Köln) is the first city in which I stayed the entire weekend, and it was so nice to stay in one place for more than one night! The train ride to Cologne was pretty long (around 4 hours) but very scenic. The train winded through the German country side and I saw so many little towns and farms. It was kind of strange because we were go...

Ahh, all of these days were just a BIG blur

JAN 23
Another day in Cologne, why do they keep us here? The city is very beautiful, but how many sites are there in this small town?? We went on a walking city tour in -2 degree Celsius today. I loved it- NOT! But we did see some pretty interesting things and every now and then we went in a building and thawed.
We saw the Roman Praeto...

My legs have never been in this much PAIN

DAY 1 and 1/2! The adjustment is hard. I'm homesick already, that's crazy! But I think it's just from the initial nerves and lack of sleep..BUT I’m hanging in there. Our adventure is off to a great start. Our group is so great. We went from strangers to close friends in a matter of like 9 hours, crazy I know!? The different states everyone...

A Nomad Reflects

We are beginning to realize that extended travel is kind of like the mythological ideal mate.

You know; when you find yourself in that routine familiar relationship you always yearned for when you were single, your brain starts to conjure up this ideal unflawed character who will wait on you hand and foot. He / She never complains, acc...

I'm going back to Cali... I mean Köln

Once back from the great trip across Europe, we were happy to find out that someone wanted to adopt us in Cologne!

Nico's mom (Gabriela) was kind enough to extend her guest room for us to use as our "home base" while our travels maintain us on the European continent, we happily accepted as we were happy to leave behind the "folding cha...

Time to Recover

Hello again!! We have now made our way to a small town in Germany called St. Goar. I have only actually been here for about an hour so I cant really say too much about it yet! But, I continue on about what happened in Amsterdam! So... after our little 'cultural show' the first night in Amsterdam I headed to the Erotic Musuem right next door with...

On the Rhein in Koblenz

Its been exactly a year since I last saw my parents and though we talk every week, I can't wait to see them in the flesh. We have been talking for weeks, no..months, about this trip and I am excited that I actually talked my Dad into coming over to Europe! Germany was extremely kind to my parents in all aspects BUT the weather. Last year this ti...
