Who's buried in Napolean's Tomb?

... I'll leave it to you to decide.

After our visit here (we walked through the WWI and WW2 display), we walked back to the Pont Alexandre Bridge and headed for the Place de la Concorde. Change the traffic noise to crowd noise and you can get a sense of the place where people went to witness the beheadings during the French Revolution. Today, a 3,000 year old Egyptian gold capped obelisk stands in the center. Normally, you can take a close up look at it, but with Bastille ...

Ah! I'm leaving!

Ah! My ticket has arrived so I'm leaving for Munich in 2 hours, so I thought I should put the rest of my Paris pictures up. I've done lots of fun things like midnight bikerides on Velibs (not as cheap as I thought, but with 2 tickets you can fool the system) and ...

Versailles and the slowest waiter in history!

... to see the short guy with an attitudes tomb. Next on the plate was the Champs-Elysees and the Arc de Triomphe. We went up the Arc and took some great pictures. There are tons of nice shops on the Champs-elysees, too bad the exchange rate is so bad. We did some window watching before heading back to the hotel to get ready for dinner. We went to a restaurant in a part of town ...

Paris - Day 3

... terrorists.  We got off the Metro at Commerce and made our way toward Rue Mademoiselle.  After several minutes, it became very apparent that we were walking in the wrong direction.  Unfortunately, I had not written the address for Mon Bon Chien in my Moleskine, but I did have a vague recollection that it in the teens or lower.  I approached a woman walking her Labrador and asked, "S'il ...

Cara Lutetia

... pony rides, carousels, and puppet theatre. Of course, there is a beautiful palace thrown in for good measure and plenty of coiffed greenery to tickle the gardener'e eye. It is the place to be on a sunny Sunday afternoon and most certainly the favourite locale of at least four of our troupe. The children were able to appreciate Paris in their own ways. Even Eze, now two and a half years old was happy to go along with any plan and seemed ...

Musee D'Orsay, Rodin Sculptures & Napoleon's Tomb

... museum was pure insanity and an instant headache creator... for those that had to stand in it. Lucky for us, once again, we were saved by our Paris Museum Pass, which allowed us to entire on the side and walk right into the place. We started off looking at some early 19th century pieces, planning to go through the entire museum if we could. We spent about 30 minutes in the first 9 rooms. It was long enough to discover a couple of marvelous ...

Paris April 10-11 2007

... going to be a long day with no money coming into our hands in one of the most expensive cities in Europe. We shrugged it off and headed further west, through the Parc de Monceau and down l'Avenue Hoche to l'Arc de Triomphe. The first reaction we both had was, 'Jesus that is a big arc.' But as we came closer and got inside to arc we noticed how intricate the statues and carvings were. The arc was made by Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte in the early ...

A Short Train Ride To Paris!

... the normal tourist route and it was great. I loved having a small insight into something abit different. A picnic one evening beneath the Eiffel tower, complete with red wine, baguettes and a huge variety of Cheeses proved to be lovely. The atmosphere was fantastic with so many other people also out enjoying their own picnic, music and the tower itself. It's a must do if you're in Paris, a really lovely experience! One old wino did attempt to steel our wine though, apparently using ...

French Student protests-what are they thinking?

... well the economy even functions there under such archaic employment laws. I don't often criticize the French. I admire their sense of civilized society--their sense of style, their love of culture, language and history, their love of learning and their appreciation of intelligence. I love their joie de vivre. I like their independence and regret that Americans don't respect their right to disagree with us. When many Americans mocked France for their position against the US going into ...

August 10th - Paris

This laptop idea finally seems like a good one. I am currently sat in our room on the third floor of a hotel in Paris' 11th Arrondisement. Michelle is stood at the open window watching a near-riot situation unfold between a group of young men, the police and some refuse collectors. It all began a couple of hours ago when the men started to race a motorbike up and down the road below, much to the annoyance of some of the local residents. Then suddenly the ...
