During the night, we had heavy rain, with intervals of torrential rain. All in all quite a night, we had an early start today and were gone by 9am.
The " which road to take decision " was easy today and as we had already decided that Dijon in the rain was not a good idea, we would press on towards Lyon and took the E15 toll road. To say the road was wet, would have been an under statement and the spray was horrendous. The inside lane was full of lorries ...

Visited Vienne today, a Roman town, one of Gaul's largest settlements. It became a Roman Colony in 47 BC under Julius Caesar. There were many Roman remains which are constantly being discovered in this city of about 30,000 residents. We visited the remains of a Roman road for chariots with our guide Camille, the Temple ...

We woke to rain this morning. Ken ran out to take moody photos, I jumped up to get the washing off the terrace. Nothing changes!
We started the day with breakfast at the little boulangerie we went to on the tour yesterday and had the praline brioche and coffee. We were heading off to the Roman Ruins this morning and are definitely going on the funicular. We jumped onto the one going to the ruins as the doors closed on Jude once again. She made it in, but Mike was left ...

It's official.I love you all but I am nervous I won't be able to part with this place. There is SO much to explore! Each rue deserves it's own week of dedicated exploration. So Friday, a couple of us met to walk up to the basilica, which you can see on top if the hill in the background in the pictures I put up last time. It's in Vieux Lyon and it's a bit if a hike up, but in total from my house it probably only takes about 25 minutes!! The steps up look about as daunting as the ...

Transition days are by their nature demanding. Jan being herself has researched today, the line numbers, the destinations, we have tickets, we are logistically prepared. Marie-Christine met us at 7.30am, her smiling petite self with crepes and yoghurt and balled melon etc. We packed (a small job), waited, were driven to the Gare saying a fond gratitude for her loving care of us, boarded the 9.39 to Paris, arrived and scoped out the line to St Lazare from Montparnasse then ...
