There was a TV crew there from TVCamara, one of the Brazilian TV channels, and as we were about to leave they asked if they could interview me. They did a dummy run, presumably to make sure I wasn't a complete waste of film, and then did the interview, in which I talked a lot of rubbish about vintage and glamour and the individual. They probably wished they'd asked somebody else.

... of the similiarity of their names, or possibly they would do this anyway, the campaign focuses more on their candidate numbers rather than their names. As Paul says, it's like an episode of The Prisoner in reverse. There are posters and flags bearing the numbers, and yesterday we heard an electioneering van with a catchy reggae tune blaring out the number to vote for.

... up some of the other mysteries of life here, such as why people in our building prefer to throw their rubbish out of the window for the cleaning lady to clear up, rather than walking 10 yards to the rubbish chute. The fact that she spends an hour every morning purely sweeping up rubbish when she could be doing other things to make a nicer living environment for everybody is less important than the sense of superiority they presumably feel as they fling ...
... with all the amenities that implies, yet with a small town feel. It has its own unique and delicious cuisine. It has a choice of language schools (there are surprisingly few places in Brazil to learn Portuguese outside of Rio and Sao Paulo), and the added benefit of not many people speaking English. Finally, it is in a region with a tradition of luthiering (guitar making).

It has gotten very chilly tonight, so I took a shower and jumped under the blankets waiting for my roommates to return. This has been a very special trip and we have had so much more time to build relationships. There is much teasing and laughter and lots of smiles.
