      ... couple of hours to walk the streets at our leisure before being picked up and taken to lunch. Izmir, third largest city in Turkey, some interesting sights sounds and smells.       ... families dropping their loved ones at the bus stops, presumably for the to return to work after the festival.       ... of repair. They had lovely ornate railings at the windows and brightly colourful walls and shutters. The town also has two Greek Orthodox churches that have been converted into mosques, but one still has Christian services on a Sunday morning.

      ... car car park where a man spoke good English, he explained that the site would open at 1.00pm. That gave us te to have an early lunch. At opening time we took the cable car up to the entrance, there were souvenirs stalls lining the track and a barrier from the exit that made you walk past them all! Well planned tourism!       ... a population of 250,000. It was worthwhile spending extra to visit some newly discovered terrace houses lived in by the rich. They were under cover and very well displayed so you could see the intricate mosaic floors and the comforts they enjoyed - like under floor heating!
