Historical Traveler Reviews of Acro Hotel Ams Amsterdam
Fantastic

We stayed in this hotel in January - there were six in our group - different ages and expectations - we were all thoroughly delighted with the hotel. The people that run it are very helpful and tell you the best places to visit. The rooms are very clean if a little bit small - but lets face it all you do is sleep in there! There is a tram stop at the end of the road which can take you into the centre of Amsterdam in a matter of minutes. If you come out of the hotel and turn right a couple of hundred yards down there is a school where the children are not fenced in - very refreshing to see. All in all we enjoyed our stay and are going back in August.
DON'T GO IF YOU'RE TALL!

Clean, basic, tiny room with good bathroom and more than adequate breakfast. Biggest drawback was the beds - I'm 6'3" and had to put the mattress on the floor to sleep, as the bed was way too short, leaving my feet dangling over the cheap wooden footboard. Good location, friendly staff. It's a low price hotel, so dont expect luxury, but if you're on a tight budget this will do nicely. The bed will prevent me from returning though.
Will definintely go back!

Just returned from Amsterdam. Spent three nights at this hotel and I can't say one bad thing. Rooms although small are very clean and breakfast is buffet style - eat as much as you like - we did! Staff were really helpful and the location is dead central - 5 mins walk from Van Gogh and Rijks-museums and 1 stop to Leidesplein - all the bars, cafes and restaurants you want! You have to go to Boom Chicago! - it's the funniest show I've seen in a while - absolutely brilliant and cheap pitchers of beer! We'd definitely recommend staying at this hotel!
Great value for money. Enjoy Amsterdam!
Great hotel

The Acro is a great hotel in a great location, with friendly staff and clean rooms. If you're lucky, get one of the large twins with a balcony at the front of the hotel. The all you can eat breakfast is included and can fill you up for the day. Additionally, you can get a local bus to the airport from the tram/bus stop at the top of the road - and the hotel will sell you a strippenkart.

We have just returned from a weekend stay at the Acro hotel. The position of the hotel is within walking distance of the Vondel Park, and the Rijks museum and the Van Gogh museum. Also, 5 minutes walk away is the Canal boat trip (A must). We enquired at the Hotel reception about a city bus tour, but were told it wasnt worth the money as the streets are so narrow the bus cannot get close enough to the major sights. The canal boat however pulls up alongside sites like the Anne Frank house, and all the major buildings built alongside the canal banks. It was so good we did the trip twice, and it is half the cost of the bus tour! A wonderful city to walk round and explore for a weekend, and a very adequate budget hotel to stay. Definately worth a second stay in a few years.
Great location - terrible hotel

I always stay in budget hotels when I travel and this is by far the worst budget hotel I've ever experienced. I booked a single and, as usually happens, was given a twin. However there is no way two people could possibly share this room. It was tiny! I had to climb over the beds to open and close the curtains. The guy at reception the evening I arrived was busy chatting on his mobile phone while I just stood there waiting. His manner was very curt. The noise level at night was horrendous - guests coming in at 3 and 4am shouting and laughing as they climbed up the noisy steep stairs. The fire alarm went off, apparently accidentally, at 2.30am and the guy on duty proceeded to run up and down stairs while talking on the phone. There was no shampoo or shower gel in the room. The liquid soap dispenser was empty. The only saving grace for this hotel was its location next to the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum.

excellent hotel, would definitely recommend staying here. tram stop at end of the road which is useful, catch the number 5 tram from centraal stn to 'hobbemastraat'. hotel staff very friendly, even the maids. very clean and tidy rooms, satellite tv, only negative would be that the breakfast is a bit basic and no tea making facilities in rooms. also be careful with the showers, the water is scalding hot!
