    ... Cathedrals is often the life work of a few generations within families.No doubt the construction of such would have been pivotal for much community, religious and political power struggles.

    So what of Cologne? I haven't researched this in depth but I would imagine that the French feel to the place stems way back to the roots of the Frankish Empire. Happy to be corrected on that...did I mention how good Steve Smith is going? Fair dinkum he will do ...

    ... from a couple times where it was absolutely necessary to turn right, we turned left.  We got pretzels from a bakery and sat down near the church...the very gorgeous church.  Then we went for a lovely walk along the river where we found boats for each of us that we couldn't afford and went to a chocolate factory.  We needed to head back to Bochum then, because Kai had a dance class...and I have to give it to him- he is a fantastic dancer. Far better than I ever gave ...

    ... headed down to the imperial castle ruins about 20 mins down the Rhine. They happened to be closed (of course) but I wasn't going to let a sign that wasn't even in English tell me what to do, so I did what any other Mitchos would do and jumped the fence! So worth it, it was soo cool inside. I went to a little Beirhaus near the castle and got a nice cheap goulash soup and a beer. I asked for the local beer, which was this tiny glass of dark looking beer. But turns ...
