... see not just the part that constitutes the 'old town' but also the entire south side of the river which is all old Communist housing. Block after block of it. In former Communist countries as time goes by and evidence of the past gradually disappears, some of the last remnants are usually the buildings. A conversation later in the day confirmed what I'd suspected: south of the river nothing has changed. It's all as it was pre-1989.

... We practiced in a hundreds of years old building in a room with ancient tapestries and painting on the walls. Of course there was no air conditioning and it was on the fourth floor - so with such hot weather, it was a real work out!

Our second day was supposed to involve a trip out to a large mountain. We had planned to hike instead of take the tourists cable car to the top. ... spend there, I would have probably bought a day pass so I could get used to the differences. The time that I nearly made it round, I think I fell because I was so busy thinking about attempting to ride switch for a bit, that I forgot the corner was coming and didn't edge out enough to stop the tugs from being so hard!
