Saturday night was Nuit Blanche. It is once a year when museums, churches, parks and pools stay open until 7a.m. Two of my roommates, a couple of friends and I met up with some of Aleksandra's friends and took the Montmartre path, one of several planned paths that pass by different events. The city was packed. There were bands playing all over the city, including at the Sacre Coeur. At the Hotel de Ville, about 30 people were playing a life-size video game with lights. (See the picture, its h...
Paris, France ash7601Did not wake up as early as I wanted to but I discovered through reading my guide book (Rick Steve's The Best of Europe) that most of the museaums are closed on Tuesdays. I went and got lunch at a McDonalds and got to sit in the patio and look at people. By the way, it turns out that my hostel is nearby Pigalle (American soldiers used to call it "Pig Alley"), the red light district. Moulin Rouge is on that street and there are many sex shops. It can be a bit intimidating walking by at night b...
Paris, France estebanitoBonjour de France mes amies et ma famille! I am safely in Rennes and beginning my life à la Française. However, before I begin the marvelous events of only the last two days, I will quickly post some information about my 3-day orientation in Paris. I wrote most of it while we were in still Paris. It is the "We did this and then this" but, you kind of have to when you are too tired to really ponder upon what you've done. :) Enjoy! I am apologizing in advance for any spelling errors. I seem to ...
Paris, France jess06Here I am again...experiencing the Parisian life for the second time around. This time I must say is quite different. Amsterdam ended in a brilliant evening with Urok and Karin, Urok the girl I met in Barcelona, and Karin the girl I stayed with that I met on the train to Germany. The next morning I woke up early and went to the Anne Frank house, so glad I did, it was truly an experience. The way the place is set up really makes you think about the time the family was in hiding and what they w...
Paris, France lowensAs soon as I found out there was an ice rink on the Eiffel Tower I had to go. I didn't care how small it was or how much it cost. The fact it was included in the price of a climb to the first floor did make even more attractive. There was also a good chance the rink in front of the Hotel de Ville would still be open so I was really really excited! Mum had been reading the Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown, when she was visiting last year and had left it for us. It presented some interesting theories...

Paris, France rhibeezLast night Mum and I coaxed the kids out for ice cream. Not just any ice cream. A small street seller at the apex of a cobbled street across from Notre Dame cathedral ... just past the manicured gardens and a small bridge over the river Seine. We had just spent the better part of two days at Disneyland and were numb with exhaustion. Weather had been reasonably kind - overcast the first day and warm the second - luckily the forecast rain didn't eventuate. Ticked off all the things you do ...

... we hadn't had to go back, I would have passed out or spent the next ten years standing there, unable to say a word. Anyway, we went to Sacre Coeur afterwards and climbed this damned hill with I don't know how many steps (my legs hurt a lot), but the view from above was just great. The view and a small cafe on Monmartre, where we ate crepes with strawberry marmelade. At the end of the day I was pretty much dead from tiredness, but it was so worth it.
Paris, France asdiA few minutes ago we were sitting having a drink at a cafe while reading our books. All of the sudden, we saw an elderly woman reach for the money we had laid on our table to pay our check. She grabbed, we grabbed, and we proceed to war over 10 euros for the next few minutes. Katie kept telling her, "Non", but she would not stop. Finally, a friendly girl shooed the woman away and we luckily got away unscathed. Aside from getting stuck in the Metro because we never ...
