So our last day at Surfers Paradise was to be a nice relaxing bum on the beach. We got there for about 10:00 and managed to stay until 12:30 before the heat drove us inside for some lunch. It was really hot today and we both got burnt, me on my belly, and Loz had these two very strange marks on his face which make him look like a weird Adam Ant. We're both a bit bored of Surfers Paradise now so we're looking forward to leaving tomorrow, to celebrate our last night we had a Thai for tea! Next ...

Bundaberg – Thursday 15th to Saturday 17th October

I arrived late at night in Bundy, and was picked up by the only hostel that I could find that didn't close at 6pm. Being a working town, most of the hostels seem to not bother with passers by, only long termers. The hostel was very loud, with all the dorms coming off the main corridor, and all the drunken ...

ELLIOTT HEADS

... for checking out the Bundaberg region, which was something we wanted to do. Elliott Heads is about 22km south-east of Bundaberg and boasts a large estuary with a broad expanse of sheltered bays with picnic areas overlooking the beach. It is the southern most of the local beaches situated at the mouth of the Elliott River and is surrounded by cane fields and small crop farms, including strawberries. We tasted the most ...

The reason for travelling to LA via Bundaberg

... drivers claim that I was only 300m from the center of town and (most importantly) Target.

When I started walking in the right direction, I still think he was a bit optimistic on the distance but I did eventually find I guess what you would call a mall, or the main street in town with some shops on it. I was quite well behaved remembering that I didn't need to have to pack anything more into my already slightly bulging suitcase.

One thing i did see a lot of which I wasn't ...

Turtles, Turtles Everywhere!

... it means it was the first time she was on land in 30 years since she was born on this beach. It took a long time for her eggs to start coming, and that is apparantly normal for new mothers. The ranger tagged her, since she was new. I felt so bad for her having to go through all that and then get shots of the tags in her flippers. This turtle also layed her eggs low on the beach (something new mums often do), so we had to relocate this nest of 121 eggs too. This time I ...

Tropical Island - Lady Elliot

... like to eat, it is so easy to see why they go after a floating plastic bag. The poor little probablly didn't survive - makes the plastic message very real. We had a really relaxing 5 days on the island. When not snorkeling we hung in the recreation room, sat in the sun and read books and explored the lagoon at low tide. I would love to go back a little further into summer when the island and the water was warmer- and the turtles are laying.

Living in Bundy

... beds, culled a lot of our gear that Ange had brought up from Brissie, cleaned out several locker and put all the cruising guides and that kind of literature on the shelf in the S/b cabin leaving me with an empty locker in the P/t companionway for more galley things. Both JJ and I have spent a lot of time just sitting around playing on our computers. Wednesday it was warm enough for us to get out on deck to measure up the standing rigging. Neither of us wanted to go up the mast ...
