Longest Train Ride Ever

... Geneve.  Instead the time was approaching closer to the departure of the train I needed to catch.  As soon as I realized this my heart went into panic mode punching through my chest.
Finally the train screeched to a stop at Montpellier station at the exact time my next train was due to depart.  I quickly grabbed my luggage and bolted off the train.  Across the platform sat another train bustling with people hopping on and off.  I said to a boy standing ...

Lovely Lake Como

... from the point there though which was cool.
Ferry back from Belaggio to Como was a lot quicker (and more expensive) and had some great views of the various places around the lake.

Back in Milan that night discovered the happy hour buffets that I'd read about - 6 Euro for a drink and all you can eat.

Buffet is nothing special, but ...

Milan was pretty much just another big European city. Not exciting enough to be interesting and not small and quaint enough to be charming.

Checked out the Duomo whichis the 3rd largest church in the world and a huge gothic building that was ...

one night in Milan

Since Chamonix is not clearing up anytime soon, I decide to save my tour de mont blanc big hike for July, and move to see northern Italy first. A bus whips me to Courmeyer at Italian side of Alps in half hour, and goes on to delivery me to Milan in 3 hours total. Milan does not hold too much for visitors, unless you shop. The city is fashionable. The Dolce and Gabana store literally occupies a marble palace ...

Milano ...

... get it and you have to book in advance (Just call them)

Strong reco ... it you are in Milan plan to watch a football match. Otherwise headout to a lake nearby in Alps and stay there for the night.

If none of this is possible, than please go to Milan before you head anywhere else in italy. It will make the trip better and more worthwhile.

Hey... note all of above is subject to you not going to Milan for shopping...

Matt explores more of Milan

I feel mildly neglectful in recounting and journaling this amazing world in which I live. I used to type everyday, but now I have been so busy. I am saddened by the prospect of leaving Italy in five short weeks. It feels like five days. I suddenly feel like I have not seen enough, been ...

... protested, 'check again, we paid for this room a month ago!'. We got nowhere with the limited english of the hotelier, and ultimately we were forced to hand over a credit card or he would have thrown us out on the street. Over the next 2 days we callled the internet booking place 4 or 5 times, and eventually found out that theyu had indeed forgot to pay the hotel for our room, but had charged us. We tried, in vain, to get the hotelier and the booking ...

Morning train to Italy

Nice to Milan Monday September 18, 2006 Got up early, packed up the bags and headed out for the station. The side walks were still a bit wet from the rains. I was loaded up w/my pack and my day bag when I stepped on a piece of wet marble. It might as well be a banana peel. I went down so fast I barely had time to react. A guy walking in the other direction grabbed my arm and helped me up. I was a bit wet and my toe was bleeding. We caught the 9am train from Nice to Milan. The view along the ...
