Castle day

... Castle was the Caufield Cup winner in 1968. From here we drove to Galway Bay and this lovely B&B, it is now 5.30am (my body clock is out of sync), yesterday evening we went into Kinvarra a little fishing village nearby and had an evening meal at one of the local pubs. Yes we are enjoying ourselves and luckily the girls LIKE castles and medieval history. Some of the photos are a little blurry , I am using my IPhone so sorry in advance ...

And I'm Home

A travel blog entry by melepua

Here it is, the moment you all have been waiting for, the finale, a blog to end all blogs, THE END to my wonderful year in Ireland. I've had highs and lows, dips and turns, and experiences that will forever hold a place in my brain. Take me to coffee some time – I’ll be happy to share my memories with you.

I went to Ireland to study music, and I came out not only having studied it, but completely immersed in it. If I took home just one gratifying memory, ...

Encounters and Farewells

A travel blog entry by melepua

... though they are just on the other side of a little body of water, they think Irish music is fascinating. I answer his few questions and ask a few myself, trying not to be rude, but frequently turning my head back to the circle because, guess what I want to do? Listen to music. He then has the gall to ask, “You seem a bit stand offish. Is that an LA thing?” NO! I JUST WANT TO LISTEN TO THE MUSIC!!!!! Which I expressed a bit more subtly than how my brain wanted me to ...

Saying Goodbye to Limerick

A travel blog entry by djsheed

... a bit.  Chris read a poem, a sort of "In Memory," for his split pants.  It all seemed appropriate. And then we headed back home.  Some of the girls made friends with a lone, free-roaming dog.  It had a tag and they made the mistake of looking at it, thus giving it an identity (versus just a random stray dog).  When we walked away, the dog looked very sad, and thus a few of the girls were a little sad.  It's Limerick, though, and all ...

Oh, Children

A travel blog entry by melepua

... Limerick’s special events fall on those few gorgeous days. Not Dublin’s though (a few weeks ago my family was on vacation. We stood in sleet and wind to watch car demonstrations. But more on that, later). I giggled as a parade of characters strolled past, some dressed in “fancy dress” as zombies, princesses, clowns, and so on, some parents walking with their wobbly child, some adults, almost everybody in blindingly yellow ...

    Absolutely

    from anonymous

Having stayed with a sister hotel in Galway early in the year, jumped at the chance to book an incredibly rate of only €89 B&B

What an absolute bargain, the property is every bit as fantastic as I hoped & imagined. Rooms are gorgeous and fab bathrooms. We checked in early with plans to take advantage of the city location, but found we just couldn't leave the hotel.

We decided to have a dinner booking was arranged for us and were seated with a view of the river and even the rain couldn't ruin it. Staff were fantastic, the waiters & waitresses are the type that are becoming rare in Ireland, attentive, helpful & personable.

Breakfast in the morning was buffet style but not as we'd known it. Large selection including hot selection so that every taste was satisfied.

Didn't get an opportunity to make use of the spa, but am looking for an excuse to return to do so.

    Absolute-ly FANTASTIC!!

    from Rebel_county_girl

What an amazing hotel!! We stayed here for one night at the begining of June and were more than delighted with our stay. Excellent location (5 min taxi ride to the nearest clubs and pubs!) , beautifull, modern hotel, lovely spacious rooms with top class decor and lovely view out to the river. Safe secre parking just opposite the hotel.

We were eager to stay a second night but unfortunately they were booked out - the girl at reception however was so nice and offered us a late check out of 3pm and no extra cost!

Cocktails in the bar are also fantastic although the bar itself is a bit small. Great craic and sing-song in the residents bar we we arrived back from the clubs!!

    Just loved this hotel

    from LiverpoolThe_Girls

This hotel is fabulous and would definitely recommend it. Stayed with two girlfriends end of June 07 for two nights. Staff very friendly and really helpful. Twin room was large, really comfy bed, plasma tv, has kettle and good hairdryer. Shower excellent. Five / ten minute walk to town. Taxi was about 35 euros from Shannon Airport. Easy to get around felt very safe. Sin Bin club was good - taxi back to hotel cost 7 euros.

The spa was fabulous - girls you have just got to go to the thermal suite to chill after day's shopping, touring or after night's drinking. Very relaxing. I also had a facial - sheer bliss! Well worth the money.

There are vending machines on each floor, so its easy to get bottled water, fizzy drinks, crisps and chocolate, takes coins or you can use your room key!! We also ate at this hotel - breakfast and one evening meal, which was excellent. We are definitely going back in a couple of months.

    WOW Absolutely great

    from IrelandLou21

    oh WOW,

where to begin check in was good,

nice airy large lobby, bar bit small , food in restaurant great ( ate there twice)

especially the ceaser salad, and the spent most of our 3 days in the spa felt like new woman on the way out and looked about 10 years younger. we got one of the cosy rooms which was big and had plasma tv with pay per view movies (and pringles and little bottles of alcohol in vending machine at the end of our corridor so all goodness of spa may have been wasted but well worth it )

    can't wait to go back

    New and Nice

    from BillofBeaufort

We were part of a CIE tour and were switched into this hotel. We were more than satisfied as we were upgraded into a suite. Large, clean and functional room. A fine choice.

    Absolutely Fantastic!

    from Anonymous040

As a female staying on my own during a business trip I found this hotel ideal.... Staff were extremely helpful at every stage & especially in the restaurant. The location was also great & price even better - the rooms were very high standard & i loved the

    "rainforest" power shower.

    Lovely hotel

    from GalwayIreland

This is a lovely new modern hotel. The bedrooms are very comfortable and the flatscreen and free internet access in every room is an added bonus.

The hotel is situated in Limerick city about 5 minutes walk from the city centre.

I would return to this hotel and would highly recommend it especially because it's of great value - 89E for the room.

The food provided in the restaurant was very good and tasty.

Best Hotel I've stayed in Years

    from limericktravellor

The Absolute Hotel is beautifully designed, very eligant and tasteful. The staff are very professional but very nice, we only stayed the night but found ourselves waving to the lady who checked us in everytime we saw her.

The view was so pretty, the hotel is on the rivers bend with a wetland across from it, yet surrounded by the city on all other sides. Just a moment from Limericks tourist quarter as well as Limericks main CBD.

I live in the city and have stayed in 5 local hotels, this has been the nicest. Wide open rooms, beautiful location and a reasonable price (although they were still working on things when we went, so that may rise)

    5 Star!!!

    from caitaoife

Stayed in this newly opened hotel for a one night getaway from it all....I have to say it was one of the most beautifully decorated hotels I have ever been in, every last detail in the room is fab...I got a great deal of 89 euros for the night for two people..and so wasnt expecting too much from the room, I couldnt have been more wrong - okay so the room wasnt huge but every detail from plasma screen tv to huge power shower was there....even the hairdryer provided was of salon standard!!! The lighting detail in the room is beautiful with blue tinted lights illuminating everything. The tv was a boys dream with free internet surfing, movies, and even a library of 900 albums that you can tune into. The hotel itself has a beautiful restaraunt overlooking the river, a spa and very friendly staff. I would reccomend this hotel for those wanting to get away for the weekend who want a quiet time, a nice dinner, a few glasses of wine and relaxation...I wouldnt really say that it is suitable for a mad girls or lads weekend away. One word of warning is the charge for room service...ordered breakfast to the room and was charged ten euro for the tray to be brought to the room!! But the gorgeous food made up for it!! Would definetly stay here again
