... to walk around for hours in. So there! We decided to take a day trip to Leipzig, a smaller city just a little over an hour by train south of Berlin. We opted out of the closer and quite popular option of Potsdam which is known for it's palaces and long expanses of beautiful parks. Walking around parks in 6 inches of snow (in sneakers for Jonathan... Ha!) didn't sound like a good plan. Leipzig didn't necessarily mean less waking, however. ...

Trains from 9am-5pm to get to the other side of Germany. Loooong trip via Frankfurt and Cologne, but it was very interesting to see the countryside. It was Beautiful through the Rhine Valley. ... has suggested we visit enroute. Bamberg is one of them and is supposed to be one of the most attractive towns in Germany..we'll see!

Today we travelled through a lot of rural Germany. The question we kept asking was 'where are all the people?' Even around the hotel in this residential area, nobody was outside, no people walking along the pavements..really strange..as if The Dawn of the Planet of the Apes had happened!

... the museum were wide ranging and it was even possible to play a variety of recordings to hear examples of various instruments from a variety of time periods. In the applied arts area there was an exhibit of Jugendstil (art nouveau) glassware, tableware, jewelry and furnishings that I found to be fascinating.
