We had enjoyed our brief stay in the Gili islands. Although Trawangan was disappointing, Gili Air and seeing turtles more than made up for it. And with Lombok’s lush green mountains only a stone’s throw away in the distance we were ready to make a final ferry crossing towards our sixth and final Indonesian island of the trip.

... went with a new guy. The sole purpose of the lesson was to avoid getting completely battered by the waves in order to paddle out to catch a wave. I managed not quite getting as battered as before although the instructor wasn't as good and even got wiped out himself once.
