... and needless to say I slipped over several times. Going down was still tiring and seemed never ending. No wonder it took us five hours to climb to the peak – it was a long way! My legs started to turn to jelly and buckle beneath me every so often, but after about two hours we had made it back to base camp.
Chris literally poured a stream of ash out of his shoes. He was wondering why his trainers felt so small and tight on the decent! We were absolutely coated from head ...

... to get the MRT, instead of a taxi, to our hotel. We got on a train, took our bags off and got comfy on 2 seats as we embarked on a long ride to the other side of the line. We thought we would be on a shuttle bus but we had a car to ...

Welcome back,

Our great time in Toraja had come to an end, and we had booked some tight travel plans to make our escape. We choose to do an overnight travel bus to cover the wild, 8+ hour drive back to Makassar, where we would fly out then next morning to Lombok. The goal being to make it to Gili Trawangan, a tropical paradise I had loved 4 years ago.

Night buses in SE Asia can be a bit of a nightmare for tall folks like myself, however, the ...

A gem of a find

After spending a day recovering at Senaru, first staying at the amazing Pondok Senaru cottages which are perched on the side of the valley overlooking an amazing waterfall with million dollar views of Gurung Rinjani, and the second night at the Rinjani trekking centre just down the road hosted by the lovely Augustus and his wife, we headed along the north coast of Lombok for what has been the cycle of the trip so far. This may have been ...
