The key is in the ignition... Say a quick prayer to the God of starter motors (Well it is Sunday) Turn the key with anticipation....Joy of joys as the engine roars into life...We're off!

Excursion to Burgos!

... are.....how much history is behind them. It's hard to even comprehend, as we don't have anything in the US that even comes close to having that kind of history. Just to say that I walked down halls that have been there since the 13th century is incredible. Even more amazing is the intricacy of everything. There is no space left undecorated...and the entire building is basically a testament to the history of ...

... of coincidences, she turns out to be the second cousin of Chelo--the mom of the family I'm living with!!!) While we wait for my next bus, I suggest we find the office I have to go to tomorrow to turn in my papers (I couldn't go then because it was closed). Nope, nevermind. The office DOESN'T EXIST.

Pre- & Post-Vuelta al Cole

... about 3 hours there. There's classes every morning so I usually go to one of those. My favorite class is a dance/workout class, but I also went to a cycling class and a normal workout class with bars and weights and such. Those usually last about an hour, then I swim for awhile, and then I usually bring something to do for the last hour. It's a pretty nice life! To bad it's going to end really soon!

... my mental improvement, and will now need to be more conscious and make some little efforts to get back on track. As many of my close friends now, i can be a very anxious person. THere are only certain times and circumstances when i can sit still for an extended period of time, not worrying or being jittery about moving onto the next thing. I constantly worry that i am missing something, that i need to go on, keep the ...

Hornillos del Camino... the meseta begins

... was also indescribable and i walked very very quickly to try and make it to Hornillos as quickly as possible.

The hostal was full, in the traditional sense, but they had opened the deportive next door and had matresses and little beds for pilgrims.... kind of felt like a refugee camp, but i was grateful. Some people around me are less positive... more on that later. FUn night at dinner with tim and an older german couple... more on the later! Out of internet time!!

Burgos: rough transition back to a city

... i had more time, or an open ended schedule, as the need for a schedule detracts from the whole ¨camino¨ experience. I understand that it is very hard to do for americans especially, but i highly recommend that if you are going on the camino, try your best to havfe a very loose and open ended schedule. You want to spend each day living positively, eating when you are hungry, resting when you are tired, stopping where you feel so inspired. Off to bed in my cubby...

... wine. She saw the batido de chocolate (lit: chocolate milkshake but really just chocolate milk) in Hannah's hand and asked us what it was about ten times. "Is it chocolate juice?" she asked us many times. Our answer apparently was not enough for her, for as she watched us check out, she asked the owner what it was again. The owner has, apparently, dealt with this lady for quite a while, as she ...

El Cid eats queso stuffed olives

We designated this day for journey preparations. We searched for, and finally found the municipal albergue (refuge), tucked on the outskirts of the city next to a large, grassy field. The proprietor was quite rude, but did give us our credencials (pilgrim passports). Along the way there are many albergues and they are quite cheap, sometimes donation only. However, one must be an official pilgrim to take ...

... have an appreciation for it at its most genuine. We expected something "touristy", but not mediocre. I'm glad the admission didn't come out of my pocket. I have no pictures. The musicians were good. Some of our group made the mistake of trying to accompany the hand clapping and were shushed because they had no idea what they were doing and were throwing the dancers off. Early departure (?) the next day for Toledo, via Cordoba. We stopped in a major olive ...
