Well this week i started school. Which makes it feel like i have never left school because i have only had a couple of weeks holidays in Australia (not even). But i am just relieved that i do not have to worry about doing anything during class or any of the homework or exams =) So i can still feel relaxed.
Marie walks to and from school everyday and it is about a 20 minute walk through old small streets. The school is very beautiful and ...
Well I arrived in Paris at 6:05 in the morning yesterday, french time.
The flight was incredibely long!! and i only managed to sleep for what i think was 3 hours and even though i dozed off 3 times i slept for only a bit each time. It is so difficult to sleep in sitting in an upright position.
I had a very embarrassing experience on the plane on the way here. I opened the toilet door and a well lets just say there was a man in there. I was like oh no!!! but seriously ...
... really got what, but it all tasted good.
Our trip to Burgundy would not be complete without a stop in Nuit-St. George, where we again employed the "look for the sign of whoever is open" tactic and were not dissapointed. We got to try some excellent Pinot, C******nay, and even some Aligote (a white that they mix with Creme de Cassis for an aperitif) from some of the local producers.
Now its up to Champagne!
... told me that she had seen some there but until now I hadn't seen it with my own two eyes. It was so neat! Before lunch we wanted to check out Hotel Dieu. While the town was suffering from the plague a man and his wife became patrons of Hotel Dieu in order to house and take care of those who were suffering. We were able to see the lodgings which were attached to a chapel since faith was a huge part in the survival of the people of Beaune. We also got to see the kitchen ...
Beaune, Bourgogne, France t.rosile... however those ticket bays looked angrier and more modern, and as I knew it would, wouldn't let me OUT of the metro so I had to wait until someone entered and while the doors were still open get out.
I had about five hours to spend in Paris but I wasn't feeling too well so I went and put my head down in the nearby park, yet it was too cold and windy so I spent the rest of the time in the train station. The bad thing about the French trains is that they won't announce ...
Dijon, Burgundy, France travellingjonLindz was able to take a quick weekend break from work to visit me in Dijon! And luck would have it that the one day the stupid french decide to have a train strike is the one day Lindsey was traveling by train from Paris to Dijon. So unfortunately, she arrived about 7 hours late. But we ...
Dijon, France kelseyhubble... know of a good chocolate shop. As for waffles, go off the beaten path like I did and order a plain, warm waffle-believe me, you will not want to go back to regular old waffles again! As for beer, if you drink alcohol and are a beer lover you must try the beer in Belgium; it is supposedly among the best in the world, but I would recommend that you not go to the Beer museum because to me it was a waste of time and money and that you not do the beer sampler like I did ...
Dijon, France swisherd... lots of good (sausage) and bad (fish) smells and noises. I learned that Dijon is famous for more than its mustard. Apparently it is also famous for some kind of drink that involves champagne and also for gingerbread. The people have a weird obsession with owls, yes that's right owls. It has become an emblem for the city since there is a teeny-tiny owl sculpted into one of the stones of a local cathedral. It is very quaint...I am so excited that I get to live here ...
Dijon, France guilerkj... rainstorms before, but I didn't expect this in France. What hit me was extreme and was the sort of thing that makes people stop and come to the window to watch. If they did they would see a drowned rat on a bicycle sporting a florescent top. I didn't put my waterproof bottoms on and when I realized I should have it was too late. Stopping to open my pannier would have drenched everything else. I had to continue and ride it out. Oddly, I ...
