... Maicher's Uncle Georg planned and laid the ornate street cobble stones. The stones came from the Rhein region. We stopped at the Schmidt Cafe so that Ron could have Schwarzwalderkirsch Kuchen und Kaffee. We looked at some more of the Alt Stadt. The Hotel Bären Wein und Bierstuben was first built in 1358 but its foundation was laid 1120. This is the ...

... around. We loved this town. Lots of really lovely cobblestones in different formations, big and small cobbles and lots of patterns. The buildings were fantastic and all the shops were open even though it was after six pm. We had a good ole look around and brought a sim card for my ipad from a very stroppy german guy. So far I've managed to register it but not to buy any more data so its all a bit frustrating. I will figure it out ...

... on signposts. Getting our tickets was easy enough, but we soon realised we were in Switzerland, at the price of things. It was $100 for each of us, which was what we had expected, but $60 each for the bikes, and they didn't even get a seat. If John had been buying the tickets, he reckons his bike would have been staying in Basel. Anyway, our ride is over, it's been fantastic, I can't describe how much we have loved it. We have seen so much, learnt so much ...

Day Fifteen ____ Wednesday, May 28, 2014 Strasbourg to Colmar

An early breakfast and venture to the train station to buy tickets to Colmar – and to inquire about tickets for tomorrow's trip to Augsburg, Germany, on our way to Mittenwald (for four nights).

We knew that the Augsburg trip would be expensive, but were not quite prepared for the actual shock of reality. The trip is a little over three ...
