Time to say goodbye to Amsterdam & the Netherlands. Our next destination will be Brussels, Belgium. We caught a taxi to the central train station, which was probably an overkill as it was only a short walking distance from the hotel, but we didn't fancy trying to negotiate our luggage over the very uneven cobblestones. The train station was pretty typical of most train stations, not very pretty and today quite filthy. We did find out that there was a cleaners strike ...

A quick visit to the Atomium today before Belgium waffles, Nutella and cream. They love their Nutella here! A little chocolate shopping and a visit to the peeing boy and then it was off to the airport for our flight to Berlin. We had quick burgers ( like McDonalds) at the airport then it was time to board the plane. We arrived safely in Berlin. It's very quiet here as they celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve. Lots of sightseeing tomorrow so ...

... to allay my fears. The taxi's didn't like our loads of cases but we found two to take us and Emily met us not long after checking in. The weather was drizzly. That evening we went out for dinner. Luckily the menu had English translation on it. The food was all to die for (the price was similar, but I am a cheapskate). I had pasta in truffle oil with rocket and Parma ...

Monday 1 July - Planes, trains and automobiles

A travel blog entry by suziesblog on Jul 01, 2013

Having arrived at Heathrow around 6:30am, we arranged a chauffeured car to take us, our bags and the bike to St Pancras station from where the Eurostar departs for Brussels and other locations. Being peak hour, the journey took close to 90 minutes during which time we chatted with our jovial pakistani chauffeur. He enthusiastically tried to convince us that holidaying in the UK was a far better idea than going to the continent. We assured him that our ...
