Brian blogs this time:

As we finished breakfast in Gouda at the Best Western, we both noticed that most of the folks in the breakfast area were considerably older than we are. It made us wonder why we keep arriving last yet seem to be the youngest cyclists? Perhaps we've lost a step or two since our last bike trip. Although that was 2010 in Tuscany and we were the only couple on the tour. In 1998 we traveled with another couple who were considerably older than we ...

So back to yesterday, we left London, being very grateful we don't live in it and have a car! Another grey day and quite cool. Plan was to kcheck out the Thames barrier. Had a bit of an issue with parking. Again. A lovely man saw we were struggling and gave us some very good advice. We rugged up and braved the conditions to walk along the Thames down to the barriers. Worth a look. After a coffee & loo break it was off to drive onto the train. It ...

... up! Naturally the view rewards the vertigo and from that height, you have a fantastic view of the three large rivers coming together and making this Europe's busiest river junction. I can't believe that this is the third belfry we have been up in just over a week, Bruges, Ypres and now Dordrect - it just seems such a great place to get a panorama of the region. 67 bells this one has and is "internationally famous for its ...

All in all, our first days ride was awesome, cycling along the bicycle motorways of the world. Followed by an amazingly generous welcome from our friends Petr and Evie. Big THANKS to you. We enjoyed a fantastic meal and a traditional dutch breakfast. Involved chocolate hundreds & thousands, fresh bread and eggs from their own hens. A big thankyou to you!

So, it's Amsterdam today, wish us luck and many strokeable dogs along the way.
