    ... were missing their eyes. Apparently, at one point in time, the (painted) eyes of the saints were considered good luck, so people would scrape them off and take them home. Yes, they vandalized a house of worship for luck.

    ... sorts of marten. We didn't see any though. About 5 minutes later, we reached our destination. There was a tiny church with a path on one side leading to a shrine and the entrance to the cave.

    ... common issue here?! Shopping done, we set our sights on a monastery that we think is the most famous one and head to the hills. The drive was quite incredible winding through mountains between tiny villages as the temperature dropped and the rain set in. What seamed like Hundreds of people were lined along the highway selling jams and honey's - kinda wishes we had some Bulgarian to purchase - before we dropped down to ski valley. Pretty crazy ...

    ... spread. Why can't people be accepting of what is on offer when it is on offer? Somewhere had to be the most basic brekkie and this was it but nobody seemed to be starving. I enjoyed the olives, realizing those in Bulgaria are not as good. The Brits are being attacked by midgies [maybe they have wedgies] but this gentleman has not been bitten, obviously cuz I'm too sweet.
