Architecture, right up to the 19th Century. Very grand and outside on
the roof is a maze of wonderful turrets, chimneys etc. We said it was
where the fairies lived and Ella loved it, big discussions as to

We wanted to keep it pretty simple today. A Quick drive by the lovely Saumur Chateau and a stop in a Winery. The Winery was EXCELLENT. Yet another bonus of the low season, had the winemaker to ourselves who showed us around...Ella even had a few glasses on grape juice on the house. Tried some lovely wines..and golly gosh it is not a tasting! Had I gone along with each of their bottles to try I ...

... Diane lived in the castle until the death of King Henri II. The King was jousting one day when a piece of wood flew and got suck in his eye. No one wanted to remove the wood in fear of living with the consequence of killing the King. After 10 trials and failures of trying to remove wood out of the eyes of prisoners, the King died anyway due to an infection. At this time, Catherine reclaimed her castle, building additional floor to Diane's bridge.
