Today was dedicated to Nara.
We took a train there around noon.
All in all, we visited 3 shrines in the hot city.
However, the certain of attention for this city is the huge 2000 or so wild deer population that lives in the city.
And I mean IN the city.
They are everywhere and they are so friendly and beautiful.

After a good night sleep in the gorgeous suite, we had a quick breakfast and headed out to town.
We visited the exhibition hall which was OK and then went across the street to visit the modern art museum, which was great.
A quick lunch and we were off to walk the "Philosopher walk", which ended up to be a 5-kilometer stroll by a lovely …

Historical Traveler Reviews ANA Crowne Plaza Kyoto
Ci tornerei.
Pleasant hotel with a great location
This was a very comfortable hotel with an enchanting view of Nijo Castle (for which we paid a little extra.) Certain aspects of the hotel are dated (think '60s or '70s) but the hotel is up to date in the more important ways, e.g., our bed a Tempurpedic which gave a very good night's sleep. The location is superb, being very convenient for the subway, Nijo itself, and the bus to Ginkakuji. Free internet in the lobby was an unexpected plus. Quite a few restaurants are an easy walk away and you can also easily walk to other parts of central Kyoto. I would certainly stay here again.
Excellent value hotel with just the right amenities
We had a great experience here. The staff were all very friendly and helpful though English was not the strong point for many though they did have fluent speakers brought to us when necessary. We had a very reasonably priced dinner buffet in one of the many restaurants. The location was convenient and we used the shuttle service to Kyoto Station as well as the nearby subway stop a number of times. The room was very nice sized with great amenities such as free broadband internet. We would give this an excellent if more of the stay were comfortable English speakers, but we highly recommend this hotel nonetheless.
Down On Its Luck, But Passable
Honestly, in looking over the other reviews now, I'm somewhat baffled. The hotel we arrived to was nice enough - clean, polite and English-speaking staff, and a great location to Nijo Castle. It was, however, clearly down on its luck. The whole hotel had clearly seen better days - the lobby chairs, the room linens and shades, the hallways were all frayed. When we were taken to our room - by a very helpful and polite woman clad in a pink Kimono - the door to our closet actually fell off as she showed us the safe. We were, then, somewhat disappointed. In defense of the hotel, however, the closet was immediately fixed and we had a straight on view of Nijo Castle. Also, this hotel is very convenient to the subway (it's only 1 block away), they offer a regular shuttle to and from Kyoto Station, and everyone at the place is as helpful as can be. We were especially grateful to the Concierge in the lobby, who more than ably helps you find your way around the nameless, meandering Kyoto streets. All in all, while it will be a clean and fine place to stay, don't come to this hotel expecting it to be in the best shape and right in the middle of things. There's not much near the hotel except for the Castle, so get used to those subway stairs!
Excellent location in front of Nijo castle !
Also the room is a bit small compare to what we had in Tokyo, it had all the necessary luxuaries you can expect : king size bed, heated toilet seat ,lots of amenities , electric tea pot and mini refrigerator AND English newspaper every morning.
The concierge gave us excellent advises on restaurants (including one just at the back side of the hotel) and on sightseing.
The hotel shuttle to and from the train station that left every 15 minutes is very convenient to go to restaurants.
Indoor swimming pool is a bit expensive ....
One of the best hotels ever
This was the first hotel we stayed in Japan and it was the best. In fact other than it being a bit smaller than USA hotels it was the best I have ever stayed in. The queen/double seemed more like a small king. The bathroom was wonderful. Heated toilet seat with toilet shower and bidet. Tall bathtub and lots of amenities and toiletries. Nice electric tea pot and mini refrigerator. High speed internet was free and of course there were a couple of English TV channels. Plenty of outlets as well- the USA could learn from that). Another wonderful thing was that we were given newspapers translated in English every moming and the service was beyond great. The majority of the staff spoke Englsh. NO tipping what so ever in Japan and honestly they deserve it. We thought the $23 for the breakfast buffet was high until we realized that was very normal. It was cheaper to get the buffet instead of getting 2 eggs, toast, coffee and juice. There was plenty to eat that would fill you up until dinnertime.
This hotel also had a shuttle to and from the train station that left every 20 minutes which made it convenient. Also Sunrise Tours also used this hotel as one of their pick up points making it very easy to tour. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. In fact I would suggest you stay there in Kyoto and travel by train everywhere else. It was the nicest place we stayed in Japan and they were waiting for you. The waterfall in the lounge was beautiful. I made the reservations online with Expedia. No problems with doing that.
It was the best hotel we stayed at in Japan. Great service. We asked the front desk to switch to a non-smoking room. They responded right away and directed us to our new room. It is pretty convient to most attractions with the subway and several bus lines. Free internet was also helpful.
Excellent experience of the ANA Hotel, Kyoto
We stayed for two nights in a very nice twin room in the ANA hotel Kyoto for 43,890 Yen excluding breakfast and found it an impeccably run hotel in every respect. Its location opposite the Nijojo castle and close to the Subway station is an extra advantage. It has a dramatic waterfall and garden as a backdrop to the (admittedly rather expensive) restaurant, where the breakfast offers an extensive choice, and the separate coffee lounge. It also has attractive gift and flower shops in the basement. The atmosphere is one of luxury despite the fairly modest room charge and we would recommend the hotel wholeheartedly.
We just arrived back from a trip to Kyoto and had a wonderful time at the ANA Hotel. As most travellers are aware, hotels can be quite expensive in Japan but for the moderate price bracket this hotel is in it was quite wonderful.
The location is superb--it's right across from Nijo Castle (the Shogun Castle) and the metro station is just a couple of steps away. Our room was so nice and cosy overlooking a garden and since we were staying in a moderate hotel we splurged and included buffet breakfast during our stay which was excellent.
The staff was so attentive and great as well! Our anniversary was falling during this time and my husband went to buy flowers from a nearby market and those at the guest desk were so sweet to find lovely crystal vases for him to display them in. The concierge gave great restaurant recommendations as well (there was this good Shabu Shabu place we went to).
I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking at visiting Kyoto and we look forward to staying here once again on future visits.
Excellent Location and Good Value
Even though a US$200 per night hotel room seems a bit steep in most cities, it is right in-line with other hotels in this rather expensive country. The ANA was perfect in location (across the street from the castle) for sight-seeing and transportation. The rooms were well appointed, clean and very quiet. The staff went out of their way to make each customer was well served. There are other hotels that are a bit lower in price, but you absolutely get what you pay for and more. Repeat stay for sure. 4/21/05-4/24/05
