Hidden Gem in the Mountains

Before arriving in Innsbruck I did a little research online and found out that it was the most dangerous airport in Europe and one of the most dangerous in the world! As a nervous flier this wasn't the most comforting of news! However, whilst being dangerous to land at due to the 8000ft mountains and short runway, it is without a doubt the most stunning approach I have ever witnessed! I would recommend visiting Innsbruck just for the incredible view from the plane!

... to get a second though we thought we better try something new. Hour 6 in the beer hall had passed and we were full of beer and cheer. Personal achievements certainly had been reached that day. It's kind of a surreal feel, after hours of nearly impenetrable cliffs and fierce river gorges--thinking I'd left all land suitable for human life behind--to find a peaceful idyllic landscape high up on the mountains--a Shangri-La of sorts. I reach the town itself--a pleasant place built on gentle slopes with a couple of shops and restaurants open. Here I stop to chat with an older German couple that ...

... research first before settling on the hostel, and wander around in the dark, using a map given to me by the tourism office in Prutz. Turns out the prices quoted on the map are a little different than the ones they give me at the door. Finally I figure the hostel is my best bet, so I head back across town to look for it. Turns out, I get my own cozy room, so it all ...

1738. The Sprint to the Hostel Town

Day 284 4 hrs, 12.5 kms Day Totals: 16 hrs, 37.5 kms In the town of Pfunds up ahead there's supposed to be a hostel and I'm determined to get there tonight. But I still can't pass up the chance to do a quick parkbench concert in the riverside town of Tosens as I pass through. I then find a quiet country path on the other side of the stream and continue my sprint to ...
