On the 1st January, we left Italy for the French country side. It was our longest drive of about 500km. The scenery was beautiful with snow covered fields and small towns. We drove through the Mont Blanc tunnel which is 12km long through the mountains. We arrived late in the afternoon with the two satellite navigation systems taking us different routes - one along a rode and the other on a mud track. We are staying in my sisters and brother-in-laws house in the small town ...
So on October 30 - we visited several wineries - tasted various c******nay types - visited a family owned winery a purchase a few bottles of pouilly fuisse - my favorite - had a great dinner at the B and B
October 31 - visited Cluny and the Abbey - the revolutionaries in 1790 destroyed the most beautiful abbey -- we seen this a lot throughout France - we then went to a 1600 chateau - beautiful visit.
... Charolais cow. Saw some beautiful countryside, green rolling hills and open farm land.

After a largish lunch we decided on a picnic of wine and cheese for dinner at the Chateau in the late afternoon sunshine with Olga the dog for company.

It was also our (mostly Stephs) mission to go to every stall, at every market and check out all the amazing produce and art & crafts. It was actually lots of fun with heaps of free trials (plus there are no calories in freebies, right?) The QV and Yarra Valley markets will get more of a workout when we get back. In fact we've started a to do list in Melbourne, like: Try more different bars ...
The other side, we settled into the 430 mile journey south via Dijon to Macon. We had only picked the town because it had a hotel and Buffalo Grill in close proximity to each other and the motorway. The Ibis Budget hotel was just as expected – clean and boring however the meal was
great and the little bar opposite the hotel filled the rest of the evening, getting us in the holiday mood nicely.
