However, Violetta is wracked with grief by this decision– she loves Alfredo and wants to be with him, but she does not want to hurt him or compromise his family name. Some time later, Alfredo – still heartbroken over their ...

Ferrara is a Medieval town that dates back around 1300 years when Ferrara was a Byzantine military fortified city. In 1115 Ferrara became a free commune and in 1135 the Cathederal was built.
The driving was flat and the highways were fast with lots of speeding passers. The parking was limited at Ferrara and the complexity for the parking signs left us concerned while we were touring. The parking spaces were tiny and many of the vehicles were dented and ...

I took the chance this time to purchase a bottle of brandy in Toronto and stored it in my carry-on. Oops! Upon arriving in Paris we were required to clear customs to connect to Venice and we only had 1 hour to drink the brandy or relinquish it to their customs department. As time allowed, we exited customs and checked the carry-on into luggage wrapping the brandy with a sweater and hoping for the best.
... is definitely the best time to visit, even if the weather is cooler. Fewer crowds make for a more pleasant experience while walking the narrow streets and bridges.
Sailing out of the city on a giant 150 ft. Windstar yacht towards Slovenia & Croatia was absolutely beautiful. We saw million dollar yachts along the main canal, St. Marks Square & the frilly exterior of Doges Palace, and the tall bell towers of the city's most important churches.
... Center of the Uni) to see about getting an internship, and it sounds like a yes. I'll be doing a combination or selection of a) leading informal English discussion groups for Italians to practice English, b) translating different things like newspaper articles, c) editing/revising English language exercises, d) participating in in-class discussions in English classes at the university. Ok, on to adding up how much I've spent this month! It's gonna be ugly.

They have paintings all on the ceilings and on the walls of different religious scenes. You really are in awe as these churches are soo old and have so much history. We made our way to the famous St Marks square which dates back to the 12th Century. It is enclosed on three sides with HUGE ancient buildings and at the end an amazing church called Basilica di San Marco. (See the photos) The square used ...

Vince, Italy jaredten... big plaza - Piazzale Roma. It's to the north, near the bus station, and I'd seen a bunch of signs on my way to south. Again, I decided to wander, this time searching for lunch. The signs were everywhere, so I felt free to stop and get a few pints when I saw a nice-looking pub. This is always an adventure in Europe - the first time in a restaurant or bar. Each country has a different protocol for how to order and how to pay. Turns out that here, you're supposed to order, then ...
Venice, Italy eshortworldwide... graduation. We don't know how it works, and if it is only to celebrate doctorates as opposed to basic degrees, but by late June, when the schools and universities are on summer break, and it represents the end of the academic year, posters spring up in most towns. They are about 1 metre by 1 1/2 metres in size, and have a caricature of the student, and handwritten descriptions of their achievements and the nature of their degree. The students appear all dressed-up ...
