Just a few metres from the main station. Modern hotel with spacious rooms. Although it is the centre of town we found it very quiet.

Switerland - what a contrast to England! Coming in to land on the plane at night, the little villages and towns looked like little spider webs of light amongst areas of black (which must have been the mountains) with connecting threads of light, kind of joining them together - so picturesque!

... to Vaduz, Liechtenstein. It took 3 trains and 3 buses, all with tight connections to get there and the same to get back to Appenzell. The place is full of tourists and was full of souvenir shops, restaurants and hotels. Modern art is their schtick and the streets are full of it. We could see the castle of the ruling family on the hill, took a mini-train guided tour and had lunch. In short, we wouldn't recommend it. On 10/1, our last full day in Appenzell, we had a short train ride ...
