Just a few metres from the main station. Modern hotel with spacious rooms. Although it is the centre of town we found it very quiet.

Switerland - what a contrast to England! Coming in to land on the plane at night, the little villages and towns looked like little spider webs of light amongst areas of black (which must have been the mountains) with connecting threads of light, kind of joining them together - so picturesque!

I was so excited to see Yves waiting for me at the airport (thanks Yves!!) and it was a jolt to realise that I can't communicate with most of the ...

... way up to Zürichsee today, but the small (15 km) dertour took a couple of grains and a bit of time. But now we know that you have to take the valley to the left if you're in Sargans, not to follow the red signs blindly.

The right turnoff brings you to a fascinating route along the Walensee with a lot of lakeside view, bike-only tunnels and lots of industrial area with stuff to ...

... shooting practice was scheduled the next morning, ate our risotto and a whole chicken and went to bed.
The ground was uneven and I think we both dreamt of drunken hunters finding a tent behind their range...not the worst night, but definitely not the best.
The start was early the next morning and we had breakfast in front of a public pool. Mini Ciabatta, swiss brie and dry sausage from the mountains. ...

... to Vaduz, Liechtenstein. It took 3 trains and 3 buses, all with tight connections to get there and the same to get back to Appenzell. The place is full of tourists and was full of souvenir shops, restaurants and hotels. Modern art is their schtick and the streets are full of it. We could see the castle of the ruling family on the hill, took a mini-train guided tour and had lunch. In short, we wouldn't recommend it. On 10/1, our last full day in Appenzell, we had a short train ride ...
