Spent 2 days in Yangshuo, 1 night in Xingping, and 2 night in Guilin, before taking the train to Nanning; and then the sleeper train from Nanning to Hanoi. Great Hostel - Yangshuo 11 - with fantastic views forms it's roof. Swam in the Li River and visited the markets. Took the bus to Xingping - a smaller, less touristy village upstream on the Li River. Explored the farming village across the river by ferry. Guilin was big and bustling, but not half as bad as ...

... Nanning. Heading to the bus station caused a bit of a conference we asked our tour guide if he knew where it was he didn't so a large group formed with no one knowing. I asked a guy who spoke English who kindly pointed us in the right direction. Bus tickets to the border purchased 55 Yuan each. A quick dinner ordered next to the hostel then pack shower and much needed sleep. Will add photos from my camera of China ...

    A tttttiny little mishap

Our 28 hour overnight train to Nanning deserves recognition as it is one of the most memorable parts of China for us. This sleeper train consisted of numerous 'berths' which was a three tier bunkbed, row after row after row. We were on the top bunks and it was so cramped that you couldn’t even sit up so you had the option of laying down or laying down. There were two seats available at the end of the bunk beds, which ...

... dancing, loads of groups of people playing cards, people playing instruments...we got a lot of fuuny looks and giggles as there are no other Westerners here. We then went in ahuge shopping mall, full of funky dressed women, each floor had clothes and were really cheap, just which I had more room in my bagpack. Nanning is so big, we then went down a highstreet and it was ...

... massive piles of mud all around and some Vietnamese men kept laughing at us and pointing which way we should walk....thankfully then another couple from the bus appeared behind us. They could barely speak any English but we got a shuttle bus with them which then took us to another massive building. We had no idea which line we needed to be in but just stood with them as the 'Foreigners' line was not manned...I guess as we were definitley the only ...
