Lijiang, China grahamandrachDali<br>I got dropped off outside the city wall, actually way outside, and had to take a ride into the city as my pack was a bit too heavy to walk. I decided to stay at Sunny Lodge as I had seen a flyer for the guesthouse in Zhongdian and I liked what it said. The owner is from Inner Mongolia, a friendly and smiling guy with two beautifil Golden Retrievers. The dorm is a huge sunny room with 8 bed for 20RMB. Its ...

Dali, Yunnan, China happysheepDay 7 - Shangri-la - Thursday, December 4th We woke up Thursday morning and rushed through our breakfast just in time to figure out that Mama forgot to book our bus tickets and we had to wait a couple hours until we could leave. We finally made it to the bus station at 11am and were on our way through the mountains of Yunnan on a 4-hour trip to Shangri-la. Our original plan was to visit Shangri-la for one night on our way to Deqing -- a town about 100 ...
Dali, Yunnan, China matpatterson99... within five minutes we'd been approached again "Do you wanna smoka the ganje?" Which apparently means hash.. It's pretty entertaining to walk down the street and see the ethnic bai women get up from the middle of a meal of whatever they're doing and rush towards us, every time! Hadta be home for dinner at six, but getting a taxi back proved impossible- one guy refused and another tried to charge us to walk us there! Later we headed into town to go out, walked as the buses stop at ...
Dali, China stephfitzsmith... with the scam of the earth. You'll see the worst of human condition, things you may never have to know otherwise. Day after day. Think about it. I did. I decided I don't want that. Then I ended up in finance. See the irony? Anyways, back to the monastery. The plan is to spend a week or so here, so I make myself comfortable. I spread my sweaty T-shirt and slacks on one of the beds and my sleeping bag on another. My room on the second floor is wooden, basic ...
Dali, Yunnan, China orizarska... on all four sides. The main streets are lined with tourist shops, cafe's and restaurants plus there's a few bars along a street known as "Foreigner Street. After walking around for a couple of hours, I rested back at the guesthouse before eating at a nice little cafe called Cafe Angel run by a young couple since September last year where I had a good sweet and sour port and egg fried rice. I couldn't eat all of it so my appetite has taken a hit again like it did in ...
Dali, China glyn... apart from Mr Davies from America so i just hummed along to a bit of Boyz II Men whilst a lot of small Chinese men scampered round taking photos. They must have thought we were famous for some reason as they kept taking close up photos of us bedraggled English folk in our travelling gear amongst the Chinese in "formal" dress. The end of the speeches were marked by a lot of loud bangs and confetti was canonned into the air. It was really ...
Dali, China tiffanytaskerDali is a typical backpacker hangout with a lot of banana pancakes and a lot of cool, unshaved long time travellers. Unfortunately the charme is gone, too many tourist stalls and souvenier shops. It is a nice place, but real China you have to find at another place.
