... to the mud baths and I was abandoned for an hour to go and explore.

You had to pay to enter the mud baths, even if you didn't go in and I have to admit (at the risk of sounding a snob - after visiting the blue lagoon (Iceland) there was no way I getting in the water/mud here!! It was hard to distinguish where the actual 'natural healing' spring started and where it was ...

6 ladies, two men, two weeks, only 1 Turkiye!

I was really overdue my holidays, finally getting to take it in October and I just signed up to two weeks of not doing much in Turkey with a couple of friends in a group. For me though not doing much isn't my cup of tea so I took every chance to re-live my old Turkey memories, from food, sights, sea, dancing and ahem, yes the men, again :)

Please come back soon as I update all the stories from the two weeks. Thanks.

Ruined by Tourism

... There have been quite a few places I have been and been grateful for the big and small things I am used to - whether it be a well prepared meal, a western style toilet or even just people able to speak English. I think the problem starts when an area actively TRIES to be a tourist haven.

In this case the local shops all stop trying to be pleasant shops of whatever culture or vibe they might normally choose, but instead try ...

Summer Storm

... All of the sudden I was not feeling lack. The sadness was gone and a gentle knowing that everything is just fine the way it came like a breeze into my awareness.

Yesterday evening, sitting on a park bench near the harbor, I was finally able to engage in Savitry Breathing, a calming rhythmic breath (inhale for 8 count, hold for 4, exhale for 8, inhale for 4) which I couldn’t get myself to maintain in the past few weeks. Ten minutes into it and Savitry ...

pamukkale is expensive.

Awoke near Pamukkale and paid a scandalous amount to get in. 10 pounds each to see some tepid pools of water. Even the initially striking karstic rock was pretty much covered in faint brown footprints. The extorsion didn't end there as it turned out that Cleopatra's Baths, the hot spring at the top was an additional cost. We thought we could get away with just paying for one of us to get in and then swapping the ...

Yalikavak and Around - Part 3

Friday 5 Oct - Nearly at the end of our time in Yalikavak. Penny, John and Jeannie fly out early on Sunday morning, and Penny and Jeannie want to do some shopping. So after our usual hearty breakfast and a fish feeding and swimming session, we head over to Bodrum. Jeannie has fun finding a bag large enough to hold a heap of stuff, but small enough to be used as a cabin bag. John has fun negotiating. We buy 3 new leather wallets between us. Chris buys a mask ...

Off to Yalikavak...

... us and phoned with the directions, so it was very easy to find the resort we were staying. We arrived (noisily!) around 6pm and they had a very welcome glass of red wine ready for us.... It was great to see them all again! We shifted our luggage into our apartment - we are in a lovely 2 bedroom, 2 bath plus living, dining, kitchen area apartment on the ground floor of a resort complex about 5 mins driving away from the centre of Yalikavak. The resort has a lot ...

Last full day for Dad

... I frequently feel like I come out on the loosing end. I'm trying to console myself with the notion that I'm redistributing wealth to others with a lower standard of living. In the case of the carpet guy, I'm not sure that was true. I'm pretty sure I do better than the watermelon truck guy, though. I've gotten kind of lazy with my Turkish recently. I haven't been studying as much because I now have enough to get me through day-to-day, but am far, far ...
