A magnificent sunny day greeted us for Day One of our cycle trip around Lake Constance and after a wonderful breakfast including fruit and Bircher muesli (loving my Bircher muesli!), we hit the ground running and headed off towards Richenau Island.

... s a whole network of trails up the mountainside, some catering to farmers who grow grass on the higher slopes, others cater to hikers. The higher I go, the better view I get of the valley, cliffs, forests, high mountain peaks, stretching on to the east and the west.

Finally I reach the trail that goes up to the base of the falls. I figure there's no point in hauling my backpack up, since I'm coming back the same way. And nobody steals anything here in the Alps... right?... ...
