... its heyday must have been quite amazing. All these huge walls, towers, tombs, cities. It’s mind-boggling really. I guess that’s what you get when you have a billion people (I exaggerate, there probably weren’t that many back then,) and 5000 years of history.
Xi'an, Shaanxi, China paulfeuerborn... and unless you haven't already seen a drum or bell tower, city wall and a million temples there isn't much to do other than shopping. Remembering my new vow, I faithfully resisted... for now!
That night I heard something in the desk in my room after I turned the lights out. I got up to investigate but found nothing. I was convinced it was a cockroach so I slept with the lights on!
The following morning (15 Jun 09) I woke early and caught a city bus (#603 for ...
... get together and help me thank the Fishers and Fisher Friends for one of the most wonderful weekends I've had.
So let's all hold hands and instead of singing The Adams Family we can change it to....

... foods and souvenirs. In Xi'an I also managed to meet up with Lukas and Dominique from Germany again, it was good to see them and catch up on stories - they are the people I've known longest on this journey so far and it felt like meeting up with long lost friends! I took a trip with the boys up to the Big Goose Pagoda - in the evening there is a fountain show with lights set to classical and Chinese music - it's free and quite ...
Xi'an, Shaanxi, China watchoutworld... another one to two thousand feet. We are looking down a ladder on a cliff. The light rain a few gusts of wind made things a bit more interesting. We took each step with calculated care and grabbed every steel rung tight enough to make our knuckles pure white. The sea of clouds below gave a hint of help by masking the deep abyss below - making it seem we were only 50 stories off the ground instead of several hundred. Every so often the wind would push the clouds away and ...
Xi'an, China bjergaard... piece was thousands of dollars. I am curious how many people that are staying in cheap hostels (like this entire tour group was) actually purchase any pieces of fine furniture on their way to the museum, but I guess that there must've been at least one. A salesperson saw Lisa's interest in a piece and tried to negotiate a price. Considering that the starting price was over $1000 CDN, they really did not stand much of a chance. We soon headed out of the ...

Xian, China dopar... KFC is on every corner in China for some reason. When the train was ready to board, a full hour before it left (Indian trains are without exception at least a couple hours late) the crowd was let in to find the platform (again, clearly marked). There the train waited. All the cars were numbered, in order, and (gasp) an attendent waited at each car to check your ticket. Please ...
Xi'an, China youngtravellers... spectacular Terracotta Warriors. After a long drive to the site, made longer with Ange asleep for most of it .. we arrive at the place which is now a museum. We were expecting to have pieces missing with signs saying that they were currently in the British Museum but we discovered that there were enough warriors to go around for all!!!
