... lunch at Skukuza camp (feat. enormous, cheap, delicious steaks and a shitload of bees) found ourselves at Berg-En-Dal. While it was pretty weird having so many people around after the seclusion of Tamboti (where your neighbours are effectively figments of your imagination), the place had some highlights - air-conditioning, hippos in the dam, and an enormous/spotless swimming pool. A swim and a beer was pretty much exactly what we needed after a full day of driving.

... you must start your own journey, although perhaps not as long, and definitely not a walk. Rather a skip, a hop, a chicken patrolled border, and a little past grandma's house, you find yourself on the final stretch down Africa's third deadliest road. One daughter died as a baby, one son died of AIDS and the other son, who was a lawyer, was killed in a car accident while Nelson was in prison. There is only one daughter from Nelson and Winnie who is still living. Winnie was much more of an outgoing political figure; she was also very beautiful. Her times in the small house in Soweto, especially while Nelson was in prison, ...

    A Weekend in Joburg

A travel blog entry by ems-life-abroad on Jun 16, 2013

... evening, we went out and experienced Joburg nightlife (which was kind of crazy), but was a lot of fun. Unfortunately, when we left, no one in the cab I came back in had the code for the gate in front of the hostel. So, we were stuck outside until another group came back. So, by the time I actually got to bed, it was pretty late, but we just had the drive back to Gabs today, so I got to sleep most of the way.

Overall, I loved Joburg! It was such a cute city and a lot of ...
