... pushed the bikes to the local train station. On arrival, Annette checked that our tickets purchased online last evening were OK and found that we had travel from Alexander Platz to Berlin Central and then to Dresden. All good. The trip to central station was without drama and our first port of call was a cafe. We found one that served Segafrado coffee. We positioned ourselves outside the cafe so that we could keep an eye on our gear. We enjoyed coffee and a snack before we went for a ...

Another warm, sunny day, and for us a rest day. We were up early, as usual, walked to the train station at 9am to check email and bill payments (there is free email here while the booking office is open, unlike the hotel where you have to pay). We've had a quick drink at the rooftop bar, and when I braved the freezing outside to see the view, I had an unintended perfect look into a man's apartment across the road from us. He had a very straightforward modern German apartment, just his lounge lamp was ...

... Outside was equally diverting, when we managed not to shiver too much. The palace sits grandly on the river bank of the Elbe, and its gardens are as varied as the House, with formal bits and shabbily elegant bits, a dazzling azalea display, a hothouse with interesting plants and statues, and an aptly named English garden, complete with pond and duck house.
Trams and buses brought us to Dresden city centre, and we appreciated an authentic Easter time ...
