Stop Over

... and lied down. I had to sit back up because the bus was filling up but it was to let 2 girls sit at the back so I did not mind too much. I apologised for being rough and stinking of booze and fell back asleep. I did not make many observations on the way as I was too tired unfortunately.

We stopped at the services and I needed the toilet for a chance. I took a little longer than I ...

Departure Day and Retrospective Reminiscing

... forget eating outside amongst the trees in fear that a fruit bat was going to descend and land on my head! Lunch at Olympia Café in Kalk Bay was unexpectedly delicious and our first lunch at Camps Bay in Wang Thai is a treasured memory as it was a sign that our holiday had started. If we could do this trip again, anything we would have done differently? Well I think I would choose a different restaurant for lunch on the Waterfront other than Quay 4. I bought what I thought was ...

The Garden Route

... shark followed the bait all the way up to the cage and got his nose stuck in the small opening right at face level! The girl next to me and I had a good scream and a squirm under the water as the shark squiggled his way out of the bars. His nose was literally a foot from my face! Rory went back into the cage 2 more times, but I was bundled up in my warm clothes seconds after surfacing. What a day! After diving with the sharks, we jumped in ...

Jo'burg to Port Elizabeth

I really struggled with what to do once I got to Jo'burg. The idea of flying to London with Sarah (a truck mate) and then carrying on home was really appealing. I miss my family, my beautiful niece and nephews and Paul! But, I knew I would regret not taking the time to explore more of South Africa before I left. And I was dying to see Cape Town. So...armed with an e-mail from Paul ("Be careful! I hear single woman traveling in ...

Day 3 to 6 - in SUNNY Port Elizabeth!!

... yes JG I did get a bit idealistic!! :-) especially when we arrived at a nursery in the middle of one of the townships that the tour company sponsor. They look after about 20 children during the day and then feed another 30 odd in the evening when they return from their schools - all this is done on 650 rand a week, about 50 pounds I think. The school/nursery is run by volunteers and I met them as well . . . what a lovely bunch of people. The afternoon was spent on the beach ...

Out to Sea / A Shark Brain Shower!

... up and have their own - it's a real community for the short time it is together. So, I had a good day, and a real insight into the local fishing world. I thanked the guys for their time and said I'd love to go out again one day. After all, worse things happen at sea, or so they say! Update: Looking back at this now, it was likely that this was the start of my Tick Bite Fever. That night I didn't eat, slept shakily, going hot and cold every half-hour. I just didn't know it!

Port Elizabeth - my first proper update

Hey, Saubona (Zulu), Molo (Xhosa) and Shap (Sotho) everyone, I left over a month ago, and most of you probably thought I never made it out of Johannesburg alive, which is why I haven't emailed. Well, I did, (although I nearly did get killed by an elephant in Kruger National Park which I'll talk about later), so I am now sending you all an update on how things are going down here. I think the first place I should start is how the country actually is, not about how much partying and fun ...
