        ... the stilt village we headed to the Australian POW memorial located on the site of an old WWII Japanese run POW camp. Of the 2500 POWs held there only 6 survived. Many died because of atrocities committed by the Japanese including going on 240km death marches into the jungle to carry supplies to an outpost on the other side of the island.         ... Here we were pleased to admire several varieties of orchids along with the unusual Pitcher flowers. My senses came alive as I absorbed the sights, sounds and scents of the forest, with the dappled sunlight dancing through the foliage, I had to stop a moment to take in a big deep breath and really appreciate that here I was on Borneo in what is believed to be one of the most ancient intact ecosystems remaining on our planet.

        ... here so after a small (but v polite) complaint, we've been upgraded to a fancy suite complete with double bath on our private terrace! I'll be ruined for backpacking forever after this! We also have access to a whole different pool complex. There's barely anyone about and it's gorgeous.

        All in all we've had a great time and it's been lovely to catch up. It's a shame my Dad couldn't come too but I've got a feeling ...
