It is a wet start to the day. After breakfast we went into town to see about getting a Dutch sim card for our phone but we were too early for everywhere as the shops only opened at 9.30 and some at 10am. We did a lot of window shopping and just wandered round. After visiting several phone shops when they had opened! we decided on a sim card from KPN network. John had to get our old phone unlocked from its old network provider. ...
... to Bilbao airport only to find that there is a air traffic controller strike today in Brussels. The word at the airport was, initially, that the French were negotiating with them in order to get some flights through. This changed to "the cabin crew have been told to go back to their hotel, but we might find out more in an hour or so" and then to "flight cancelled, but we'll have another flight tomorrow and a hotel for you tonight." When I mentioned the Spanish strike tomorrow ...
From the station it’s a straight line to the park, which every man and his dog appears to be taking. Looking at the map I realise the rest of city sits on the other side of the park, but it made perfect sense in my mind for everyone to head there regardless. Amongst the open grass and in the shade of the trees people are gathered in twos and threes, lying on rugs, reading books and soaking up the suns rays. I will be coming back here for sure.
