Dahu Night

Well last night was supposed to be my last night at Cool Bananas but things went a little differently to planned. Was going to take it easy on the beers but Greg decided to have a legendary Dahu night and things got a little crazy; 3 bottles of Bundy, 6 bottles of ...

Everybody go surfing......

... the waves there will be miles bigger so we'll see how good we are!! We camped that night with Lee and Amy at a national park campsite - $5 for the night.....3 compost toilets and a bbq! Had some nice food and played cards, Lee even ended up buying a "fish" board (god knows what that means) for $220 as he's a pro surfer from down south hehe! The camp site was definitiely basic and a little scary but saved us some money so that was good!

The next day we headed ...

... for a drink of water and to have a look at how the waves were breaking further up the beach as the surf school had moved further up the beach away from us. We carried on for a while and I eventually rode a wave into the beach which made me feel alot better but we all decided that we should try leap frogging the surf school as the waves seemed to be breaking better. So we dragged our boards up the beach and tried again, something I've never really appreciated before but ...

Colin the Cockroach

G'day just a quick thing from last night after we had uploaded the blog, when we got back from having dinner and some beer I got my wash bag out and stuck my hand in to grab my toothbrush and out scuttled a cockroach, which I'll be honest I wasn't really expecting and after running around the bed for a bit to scare the **** out of LJ, Colin the Cockroach disappeared under the bed never to be seen again. I'm guessing he got in there ...

Kinka Beach to 1770; that's a place, not a number!

... holes drilled in them. As the wind blows over and through the tubes, the ship ‘sings’ a haunting sound. This is actually quite good! The whole structure appears to have been conceived as a memorial to Captain Cook’s identification of the area (although just about everywhere on the Australian coast can identify a line or two in a ship’s log somewhere about their own locality. The ‘sculpture’ is fine, if a little rough and ready in its ...

... the board, which back fired when it flew back and smacked me in the back of the head, which i have ot say hurt. Now Cory would tell me to toughen the hell up, but those things are really heavy, none the less i had a great time and can see why people get addicted to it.
I shall be giving it a few more goes before my return home.

... as we’d dropped anchor, so I knew it was on the cards if I was patient enough. I was swimming in circles around the boat checking out all the reefs when suddenly I caught a glimpse of something next to me, and sure enough it was a large turtle swimming about a meter away. He swam right underneath me and I followed him around the reef for what could possibly have been the most awesome 5 minutes of my life. Thinking that was the highlight of my day I jumped in for snorkel number ...

Sleeping and driving

... second). We hit the road and headed for Mackay. At lunch time we realised we were making pretty good time so after our sandwiches and noodles at a rest stop we aimed to shoot past Mackay and stay in a National Park about 60 km north of it for the night. Unfortunately when we got there it was full so we ended up driving further up the road to a campsite in Cape Hillsborough and checked in there for the ...

... Irwin used to run. It is a really cool zoo. you can feed and pet kangaroos and wallabies. You can pet koalas. They do really cool shows with crocodiles, birds, snakes, etc. Our favorite was the tasmanian devils. They just run around their habitats constantly. We went to a talk about them that was really cool. The zookeeper held one of them in her arms and it ...

The aptly titled 'Great' Barrier Reef

... this is the southern point of one of the natural wonders of the world, the Great Barrier Reef.

On Sunday 16th Feb we took a trip out to Lady Musgrave Island, to go exploring the southern part of the Great Barrier Reef. We were planning to do a reef trip in Cairns, however 1) the weather was still a bit dodgy in that part of the world so we couldn't guarantee we would get out there on arrival. 2) EVERYBODY sees the reef at Cairns. So ...
